In March, the choir – who are using their newfound fame to raise awareness of mental health issues within the farming community – appeared on the ITV talent competition for the first time.

The group were originally put together by Clarkson’s farm star Jeremy, as he wanted to find farmers who could sing so that they could appear in an advert for his Hawkstone beer range.

Speaking on stage at their first audition, choir member Katrina told the judges and their audience: ‘Jeremy Clarkson did a thing, and that thing is the Hawkstone Farmers Choir. Jeremy brought us together to sing, and it’s just really been amazing for us all.’

Having made it through to the live semi-finals, last night they performed Bastille’s song Pompeii, receiving a standing ovation from judges Amanda Holden and KSI as the crowd clapped and cheered.

‘Oh my goodness, beautiful song choice, and I think we’ve touched on this before – farming touches every single person in this country.

‘Everything that you do, mostly on your own, in tractors, ploughing fields, you’re up early, you barely have people to talk to, and this choir I know has given you solace and joy and comfort and friendship and all of that has created the most amazing music, so well done.’

KSI said that this performance was one of the best choir acts he’d ever heard in his life, adding: ‘Amazing.’

As several of the choir singers broke down in tears, Alesha said: ‘There’s just such genuine love and passion pouring out of every single one of you. We can see how moved all of you are and that’s really infectious. I thought the song choice was fantastic.

‘There’s something so wholesome about what you’re doing, I loved every single moment of that. Congratulations.’

Simon then piped up to say: ‘Well, I wasn’t there the first time,’ referencing when guest judge Stacey Solomon stepped in to join the panel for their first audition in his absence.

‘You are one of the favourites to win, you know that?’ he told the choir, informing them that he loves what they ‘stand for’.
