The Truth About Amanda Owen’s Life on the Farm — Straight From Her
Amanda Owen Pushes Back Against ‘Pretend Farmer’ Claims as Fans Rally Behind Her
Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen is responding firmly to critics who have accused her of being a “fake farmer,” offering a candid look at her daily realities on the Yorkshire farm.
In a new Instagram post, the 51-year-old shepherdess shared a raw, behind-the-scenes video showing the stark contrast between her public appearances and her agricultural responsibilities. One evening she may be attending a high-profile event; the next morning she is back in the rain, cleaning sheep pens and preparing livestock for auction — a core part of real-world farming.

“For anyone who says, ‘She’s not for real, she’s just a pretend farmer,’ sorry, but these hands tell a different story,” Owen said, holding up her visibly work-worn hands to the camera.
Her post featured unpolished snapshots: sheep ready for sale, muddy pens, and scenes from Hawes auction mart. She accompanied the images with a message emphasizing the importance of authentic farming and the people who keep the food chain alive.
“Goodness me, some serious contrasts going on at the moment,” she wrote. “From high glamour to muck midden in no particular order. This is what it is all about — grassroots farming, stockmanship, food on plates, and turning out whatever the weather. Don’t look the other way and pretend we can manage without farmers; we can’t.”
Owen has become a household name through Our Yorkshire Farm, which has documented life at Ravenseat Farm since 2018, featuring Amanda, her nine children, and her former husband Clive. The series has been praised for showcasing the challenges and rewards of agricultural life.

Following her post, supporters flooded the comments with praise, defending her authenticity and work ethic.
“Been watching for years — she IS a real farmer, and Lordy, she works hard!” one fan wrote.
Another added: “Don’t justify yourself to anyone, Amanda. What you do speaks for itself.”
A third commenter praised her resilience: “You work so hard and are an inspiration to many. Loving the contrast — you can definitely do both, perfectly.”
Despite criticism, Owen’s latest post reinforces her commitment to the farming lifestyle and the realities behind the image audiences see on television.
