One devastating choice Clarkson was forced to make concerned the future of his treasured pigs, ultimately deciding they had to leave the farm permanently.

Episode five of the new series showed Clarkson and his partner Lisa Hogan still grieving the departure of their beloved pigs, which had failed to produce sufficient meat to remain financially sustainable.

However, Clarkson revealed a delightful surprise when he disclosed the whereabouts of the fan-favourite animal, Richard Ham — the piglet christened after Clarkson’s friend and co-star, Richard Hammond

While clearing the former pig enclosure, Jeremy remarked: “It’s been years and years and years and every time you come down here, they all come running along to see you, and now look.”

Appearing visibly melancholy at the expansive empty area, he continued: “Mind you, that being said, it’s not completely empty though, is it? Because look who’s here. Ladies and gentlemen, Richard Ham.”

He then gestured towards the pig, who had grown considerably since his last appearance on screen.

“Look how he has grown!” Jeremy exclaimed. “He has become a mighty pig, a huge pig.

“I should just explain what’s going on here,” he told viewers, who had grown increasingly curious about Richard Ham’s whereabouts.

“We’ve kept him. We had to. The problem we’ve got though, is he can’t be a fluffer any more because there’s no more pigs to fluff.

“We can’t eat him, because we just can’t, and we can’t breed from him because there’s something genetically wrong with him. So we have just got him.”

He proceeded to explain how, since farmers are not recommended to keep pigs in isolation, they were obliged to acquire another male pig as a companion for Richard Ham.

They playfully christened the second pig ‘James Boar’, in honour of the final member of the Grand Tour trio, James May.
