Jeremy Clarkson has admitted he feels “genuinely frightened” about stepping away from filming, as he prepares for what could be his first extended break from television work in nearly four decades.
The broadcaster, best known for Top Gear, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, and more recently Clarkson’s Farm, says the idea of not being on set has left him uneasy despite the success of his latest projects.
A Career Defined by Constant Work
For more than 40 years, Clarkson has been a near-constant presence on British television. After decades fronting major programmes for the BBC and ITV, he found renewed popularity with Clarkson’s Farm, which debuted on Amazon Prime Video in 2021.
The series, filmed at Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire, introduced viewers to the realities of modern farming, combining humour with candid insight into the pressures faced by the agricultural sector. Alongside Kaleb Cooper and the wider farm team, Clarkson has spent years documenting both progress and setbacks on the land.
Filming Fatigue After Five Intense Years
Although a fifth series of Clarkson’s Farm is expected to air next spring, Clarkson has confirmed that production will pause afterward.
He previously explained that the filming schedule has been relentless, with crews working multiple days each week for five consecutive years. According to Clarkson, everyone involved could benefit from time away to recover and reset.
However, while the pause is practical, Clarkson admits it comes with anxiety.

Speaking ahead of the launch of his new ITV quiz show Millionaire Hot Seat, Clarkson explained why the upcoming break worries him so much.
He said that work has always provided structure and purpose in his life, and the thought of not filming until March feels unfamiliar and uncomfortable. It will mark the first time since the early 1980s that Clarkson has gone several months without recording a television programme.
A New Project Amid Uncertainty
While Clarkson’s Farm pauses, Clarkson will front Millionaire Hot Seat, a new ITV quiz format based on the Australian original.
The show features six contestants rotating through a “hot seat,” answering questions to climb a prize ladder. The programme gives Clarkson a fresh challenge, but it does not fully replace the constant pace he has grown used to over decades in television.
Health Scare Forces Lifestyle Changes
Clarkson also provided an update on his health following a serious medical incident in 2024, when he required emergency treatment and the fitting of a heart stent.
Since then, he says his lifestyle has changed significantly. Clarkson revealed that he has lost three stone since January, crediting the improvement to cutting out habitual snacking while still enjoying meals out in moderation.
‘I Have More Energy Now’
According to Clarkson, the changes have had a noticeable effect on his wellbeing. He says he can walk further, feels more energetic, and has benefited from reassessing his daily habits.
While he continues to enjoy food and social occasions, he is now more conscious of how small routines affect his overall health.
An Uncertain Future for Clarkson’s Farm
Whether Clarkson’s Farm continues beyond its fifth series remains unclear. Clarkson has not ruled out a return, but he has made it clear that any decision will depend on finding a compelling reason to continue.
For now, he faces a rare pause in a career defined by constant motion — one that has left him successful, influential, and, by his own admission, slightly apprehensive about what comes next.
