Jeremy Clarkson brilliantly fires back as he responds after facing pub boycott threats over ‘right-leaning’ political bans
Jeremy Clarkson Fires Back After Pub Faces Boycott Calls Over Political Ban
Jeremy Clarkson has issued a sharp response after calls emerged on social media urging the public to boycott his Oxfordshire pub, The Farmer’s Dog, following his decision to ban most Labour MPs from the venue.
The Clarkson’s Farm star, who opened the pub near Burford in August 2024, has made no secret of his opposition to the current Labour government—particularly over proposed changes to inheritance tax affecting farmers.

Labour MP Ban Sparks Backlash
The controversy intensified after Mr Clarkson confirmed that, having initially barred Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, he would now deny entry to all Labour MPs—with one exception.
“To be clear, I have banned all Labour MPs from my pub, except one: Markus Campbell-Savours. He’s welcome any time,” Clarkson wrote on X. He later added that the MP’s stance against proposed inheritance tax reforms affecting farmers was the reason for the exception.
The announcement came just a day before Clarkson used his weekend newspaper column to state openly that he wanted Labour out of government, while also warning Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham against launching a leadership bid.
Calls for a Boycott on Social Media
Clarkson’s decision divided opinion online. While many supporters praised his stance, some critics called for a boycott of The Farmer’s Dog.
One social media user urged people to stop visiting the pub and instead support establishments they deemed “more welcoming,” arguing that Clarkson’s views were too closely aligned with right-leaning politics.
The post suggested customers should “raise a pint” elsewhere, sparking a wave of responses from Clarkson’s supporters.
Clarkson’s Blunt Response
Rather than ignoring the criticism, the 65-year-old television presenter responded directly.
“Okey doke. Off you go,” Clarkson replied on X—swiftly dismissing the boycott suggestion.
The brief retort quickly gained traction, with many fans applauding his refusal to engage in a prolonged debate.
Fans Rally Behind Clarkson
Supporters of the former Top Gear and Grand Tour host were quick to defend both Clarkson and his pub.
Several users said they would happily visit The Farmer’s Dog regardless of politics, praising the food, atmosphere, and commitment to British produce. Others argued that personal dining choices should not be dictated by political disagreements.
Some commenters went further, suggesting the pub’s popularity had only grown since the ban, with visitors describing it as busy and thriving.
Roots of Clarkson’s Political Stance
Clarkson’s opposition to Labour stems largely from proposed reforms to agricultural inheritance tax, which he believes could have devastating consequences for family farms.
His public support for Markus Campbell-Savours follows the MP’s outspoken opposition to the changes in Parliament, where he warned that many elderly farmers would struggle to pass on their land under the new proposals.
Clarkson has repeatedly urged the Prime Minister and Chancellor Rachel Reeves to reverse course on the reforms.
A Pub Still Packed Despite the Controversy
Despite boycott threats and political debate, The Farmer’s Dog continues to attract customers, with Clarkson’s supporters insisting the venue remains busy and successful.
For Clarkson, the episode appears to have reinforced his approach: standing firmly by his convictions—and letting critics walk away if they choose.
