Clarkson Reveals His Mission to Restore Bird Populations

In addition to the shop news, Jeremy recently shared a heartfelt insight into his environmental efforts at Diddly Squat Farm.

Writing in his Sunday Times magazine column, he explained that the dramatic decline in Britain’s bird population had deeply impacted him:

“Since 1970 their numbers have plummeted by more than 60 per cent. When I bought Diddly Squat, the skies were completely empty. It made me sad, so I decided to do something about it.”

A Bigger Buffer Zone for Nature

Clarkson outlined the steps he has taken to bring wildlife back:

  • Stopped trimming hedges away from main roads
  • Increased field-edge margins to 10 metres — well beyond the required 4–6 metres
  • Accepted lower crop yields in exchange for giving birds a better habitat

According to the Grand Tour host, these changes are already helping birdlife to return to the farm.

A Win for Fans and Farming

Between the extended shop hours and Clarkson’s commitment to restoring nature, fans have been quick to praise the progress at Diddly Squat.

Their messages reflect a shared sentiment:
Hard work, passion, and determination deserve recognition — and Jeremy Clarkson is clearly delivering all three.
