James May and Richard Hammond Pitch New Show Ideas to Reunite the Trio
May and Hammond Reveal Two New Show Ideas with Jeremy Clarkson
The Trio’s Legendary Partnership
James May and Richard Hammond have revealed potential ideas for future TV shows alongside their longtime friend and co-host Jeremy Clarkson.
The three presenters formed one of television’s most iconic trios through their decades-long partnership on two hit motoring shows — BBC’s Top Gear and Prime Video’s The Grand Tour.
Their collaboration spanned more than 20 years, taking them to every corner of the globe. Together, they tested an incredible array of cars, explored exotic locations, and entertained millions with their signature blend of humor, chaos, and camaraderie.
The End of an Era
In 2024, the trio wrapped up their long-running journey with The Grand Tour: One For The Road — their final special for Prime Video.
The episode saw them travel across Zimbabwe and Botswana, ultimately ending at the same spot where their very first Top Gear special began back in 2007.
Fans were emotional at the thought of this being the last time Clarkson, Hammond, and May would share the screen together on a road trip.
New Ideas Beyond Cars and Travel
In separate interviews with the Oxford Mail, both James May and Richard Hammond were asked about potential new projects that might reunite the trio — but this time, without cars or long-distance travel.
Each presenter had a different vision.
Hammond’s Idea: “We’d Take on the World”
Richard Hammond proposed a lighthearted idea for the group to form a three-a-side football team and “take on the world.”
Although it’s hard to imagine the famously unathletic trio on the football pitch, Hammond’s tongue-in-cheek suggestion captured the same spirit of mischief that made their shows so beloved.
May’s Idea: “Running a Pub Together”
James May, however, had a completely different idea — one that fans might actually want to see.
“I think the three of us would run a pub,” he said. “Jeremy and I had always talked about that in the olden days. We always concluded that our pub would have nobody in it because we’d just end up running it as a club for ourselves.”
May went on to reflect on the reality of pub ownership, referencing the fact that both he and Clarkson now own real pubs in the UK.
“Now, of course, much later on, we did both end up owning pubs, and the reality is very different. You can’t really do that.”

Imagining the Roles Behind the Bar
May humorously mapped out how each host might fit into their fictional pub:
- “Hammond would have to be front of house,” he said.
- “I’d probably do the cooking.”
- “And Clarkson would have to do PR and waiting. I think he’d have to be a waiter.”
When asked if Clarkson would make a good waiter, May laughed and replied:
“No, but I don’t think I’d make a very good chef either.”
Could It Really Happen?
While there are no confirmed plans for a new Clarkson–May–Hammond series yet, fans have long speculated about what the trio might do next.
Whether it’s running a chaotic pub or forming the world’s worst football team, one thing is certain — if these three ever reunite on screen again, audiences will be watching.
