Emily Clarkson Opens Up: Why Jeremy Clarkson’s Daughter Says “I Just Can’t Do That Anymore”

Emily Clarkson, daughter of TV presenter and Clarkson’s Farm star Jeremy Clarkson, has opened up about how becoming a mother of two has forced her to re-evaluate her lifestyle, priorities, and ability to keep up with social expectations.

At 31, Emily has grown into her own voice as a podcaster, writer, and body positivity advocate. On a recent episode of her podcast Should I Delete That, she shared candid insights into how her family circumstances have shaped her outlook on life.

A Family Change That Shifted Everything

Emily and her husband, Alex Andrew, share two daughters: Arlo and Xanthe. While parenthood has always been a transformative experience, Emily admitted that having a second child has made her rethink how much she can realistically take on.

“When I had one kid, I think this is indicative of society, right? As a people pleaser, when you have one child you just fit into everybody’s plans,” she explained.

She went on to describe how, with her first baby, she felt compelled to prove that her life hadn’t changed dramatically. “You’re like: ‘Oh yeah, we’ll just bring the baby. Our life won’t change, we’re going to be fine.’ Even though it was so much harder for me at the time, because everything I did I had to pretend I didn’t have a kid basically.”

Emily admitted she often worked just as hard as she did before giving birth, showing up for events, weddings, and commitments while juggling her responsibilities as a new mother.

But with two children, the pressure finally became too much. “What I found since having a second one and trying to work, I just can’t do that anymore.”

The Pressure of Saying Yes

Emily’s confession highlights a challenge many parents face: the societal expectation to keep performing at pre-parenthood levels. For Emily, the shift came with acknowledging that saying “yes” to everything wasn’t sustainable anymore.

Her honesty struck a chord with listeners, particularly those who have felt the same tension between personal obligations and family life. The podcaster’s reflections underscore how family growth forces tough decisions about where time and energy are invested.

The Weight of Digital Overload

In the same podcast episode, Emily also addressed another pressure: the burden of constant digital communication. She confessed to having 1,622 unread WhatsApp messages on her phone, calling the situation overwhelming.

“I listened to a conversation about WhatsApp overwhelm,” she said. “I don’t know what’s happened on my phone but the tab system has changed, so it now shows me I have 1,622 unread WhatsApp messages on my homepage. I just don’t think that’s kind, and I don’t know how to make it go away.”

Her frustration reflects a growing cultural issue—where messaging apps and social platforms, once meant to connect us, often contribute to stress and anxiety.

A Voice for Body Positivity

Emily has also positioned herself as a strong advocate for body positivity, frequently speaking out against harmful narratives around weight and appearance. Recently, she criticized reality TV personality Luisa Zissman for making comments about weight and health on social media.

Zissman had suggested that being overweight should never be normalized, prompting Emily to push back. “Luisa Zissman did those stories which I just thought ‘bloody hell,’” she said on the podcast.

Her co-host Alex Light called the comments “horrible,” with Emily agreeing: “So what if someone is a bit fat and likes eating biscuits, so what? Do you know how f*****g hard it is to just be alive, and like be a good mum, and a good person and a good friend, and do all of these things, and then you get talked about like that? I just really thought we’d moved on from this.”

Growing Up in the Clarkson Spotlight

As the daughter of Jeremy Clarkson, Emily has lived much of her life under public scrutiny. Jeremy, best known for Top Gear and Clarkson’s Farm, shares Emily and her siblings Katya and Finlo with his ex-wife Frances Cain.

Despite her father’s fame, Emily has carved her own path. Her work as a writer, influencer, and podcaster has earned her a dedicated following, and her willingness to speak openly about motherhood, mental health, and body image has resonated widely.

The Struggle to Balance Roles

Emily’s reflections make clear that her biggest challenge isn’t just about managing her public profile—it’s about navigating the everyday struggles of modern motherhood.

Between sleepless nights, work commitments, and the relentless pace of digital communication, she admits there are moments when simply “being enough” feels impossible. Yet, her openness offers comfort to others facing similar struggles.

By saying “I just can’t do that anymore,” Emily isn’t admitting defeat—she’s drawing boundaries and redefining what balance looks like in her life.

Looking Ahead

Emily Clarkson continues to use her platform to spark important conversations. Whether it’s about parenting pressures, digital overwhelm, or pushing back against body-shaming, she has emerged as a voice for authenticity and resilience.

Her story reflects a broader truth: even in families under the spotlight, the challenges of raising children, managing expectations, and maintaining mental well-being remain universal.

As she embraces life with two young children, Emily’s honesty about what she can and cannot do anymore may inspire other parents to give themselves the same permission—to say “no” without guilt, and to prioritize family and personal health above all.
