Jeremy Clarkson given 10 rules to follow by council at Cotswolds pub

Jeremy Clarkson has been given 10 new rules to follow by the district council at his Cotswolds pub.

The 65-year-old Clarkson’s Farm, Top Gear and Grand Tour star recently won planning permission at the Farmer’s Dog for an overflow car park.

Found on a farmer’s field close to the popular boozer along the A40 in Asthall, near Burford, planners successfully argued that existing parking spaces were not enough.

Especially with the summer months coming and series five of the Amazon show due to broadcast this May.
While West Oxfordshire District Council has granted full permission for the field to be used as overflow parking for the journalist’s fans, there are now 10 planning conditions the pub must follow.

One of the conditions is that Mr Clarkson cannot put up lighting on the site “at any time” which the council says will protect wildlife and maintain the ‘dark skies’ of the Cotswolds.

Mr Clarkson had previously bemoaned one of the reasons for refusal for his restaurant at Diddly Squat when one councillor said he likes to stargaze.

Another condition is that no structures, signage or any other chattel can be positioned or displayed on the site except those for which the details have been previously submitted to the council.
This, the council says, is to minimise visual impacts arising in this open rural location proximate to the Cotswold National Landscape.

In addition, Mr Clarkson’s overflow car park must have a temporary hard surface with “sufficient ground coverage” to meet the anticipated high parking demand.

This must be laid down between October and April and is a condition enforced “in the interest of road safety and to ensure that safe and suitable access to the site is provided”.
In another condition, the council said: “The application site shall be used only for parking of vehicles of customers of the Farmers Dog pub and restaurant in circumstances in which the on-site parking has reached capacity.”

And the field can be used for parking cars until the end of 2029, after which it must be turned back into a farmer’s field or Mr Clarkson can reapply to change its use.

Other planning conditions have been included by the council.

Concerns had been raised by neighbours and a councillor over the traffic impact on Asthall and the A40.

Asthall Manor owner Rosie Pearson said there is “no reason to think that the high demand will drop any time soon” ahead of a new series coming in May.

Widford resident Mark Leslie, who lives about one mile from The Farmer’s Dog, said he has “serious concerns” about the current parking and access arrangements.

He claimed they have created “significant highway safety issues” and called for them to be addressed.
