Countryfile star says ‘it’s extraordinary’ as he welcomes new arrival

It was lambing season during the latest episode of the BBC favourite.

Countryfile’s Adam Henson shared some “exciting” news with viewers as a special baby lamb was born on his farm.

It was lambing season on the star’s Cotswolds farm in the latest episode of the BBC show (March 15), and it saw the arrival of Adam’s first Valais Blacknose lamb. Cuddling the new arrival, he admitted to viewers that he was “smitten”.

“I’ve got something quite exciting to show you,” Adam announced, as he explained: “We run around 250 commercial ewes on the farm, plus around 100 native rare breed sheep.

“But this year we have a new breed, unlike any we’ve kept before, and a lamb was born yesterday.”

Picking one of the baby animals out of a pen, he said: “This is one of my new arrivals, Valais Blacknose. Look at that. Isn’t that cute?”
He went on: “The Valais Blacknose hails from the Swiss Alps, with the first sheep imported into the UK around 2014.
“In this country, the breed is valued less as commercial lamb for meat production, and more for its looks and personality, making it especially popular with hobby farmers. So they are very cute with their little black nose and their black ears. And this silky wool, which is just extraordinary.”

The TV star compared the animal to another more typical lamb, explaining: “So this is a Hampshire Cross lamb that will go for meat production, and in about five months time will be worth 120, 130 quid, depending on where the market goes.
But the Valais, because of their cuteness and the pet value, and because people love to have them in their little paddocks outside their house, this ram lamb… will be worth probably five or six hundred pounds, which is quite extraordinary.”

“But money aside, I’m completely smitten with this little chap,” Adam said
