A Slow and Steady Renovation Project

In her appearance on This Morning alongside her daughters Clemmy and Nancy, Amanda discussed the difficulties of renovating Anty John’s, a property they purchased during the COVID-19 lockdown. “It was a derelict house,” Amanda explained. “We bought it during the lockdown, and it’s a renovation project.” However, the house comes with several challenges, including its location within a National Park and its status as a listed building, which restricts the kind of work they can do on it.

Acknowledging the slow pace of the project, Amanda explained, “It is a very slow job. The whole idea is to put the house back to how it would have been, keeping the integrity and the heritage alive, but also making it livable and workable.”

Family Involvement in the Renovation

Despite the slow progress, the whole family, including their nine children, has been actively involved in the renovation. “They’ve all been involved to a certain degree,” Amanda said, with her daughter Clemmy sharing plans for a unique cupboard bed within the house, which Nancy immediately claimed for herself.

Amanda also shared that they are currently focusing on installing a water supply for the property. This process involves “a lot of shoveling” and sourcing water directly from a spring. Amanda humorously recounted her daughter’s excitement over the spring water, which she described as “Yorkshire’s finest.”

Personal Struggles Amidst the Renovation

Alongside the updates on the renovation, Amanda also shared some personal news regarding the family’s emotional well-being. Recently, she revealed that their beloved dog, Sprout, had been struggling emotionally after the passing of her canine companion, Chalky. This follows a particularly difficult time for the family, marking another layer of personal loss for Amanda to navigate.

The Journey Ahead for Anty John’s

Despite the setbacks, Amanda remains optimistic about the eventual completion of Anty John’s farmhouse, emphasizing that the family is dedicated to preserving its history and making it a home for the future. The project may be slow, but the Owen family’s involvement and commitment to the restoration are unwavering.
