Jeremy Clarkson issues huge pub announcement after taking TV break
Jeremy Clarkson Announces Key Change at His Cotswolds Pub After TV Break
Jeremy Clarkson may have stepped away from television cameras for a short period, but activity behind the scenes at his Cotswolds pub is accelerating rather than slowing down. The broadcaster and writer has confirmed a notable operational update at The Farmer’s Dog, a move designed to meet overwhelming public demand as the venue heads into 2026.
Clarkson, best known for Top Gear and The Grand Tour, purchased the former Windmill pub in the village of Asthall for around £1 million in 2024. After months of renovation, the pub reopened in August of that year under its new name, quickly becoming one of the most sought-after dining spots in the Cotswolds.

From Renovation Project to Cotswolds Hotspot
Located near Burford, The Farmer’s Dog has attracted a steady stream of visitors, including Clarkson fans, local residents, and tourists exploring the area. Since reopening, securing a table has often proved difficult, with booking slots disappearing within minutes of being released online.
The pub’s popularity was further boosted by its prominent role in Clarkson’s Farm, where viewers were given a behind-the-scenes look at the realities of running a rural pub alongside a working farm. Episodes showed everything from staffing pressures to menu planning and the logistical challenges of balancing hospitality with agricultural life.
A Quiet but Important Change for 2026
With Clarkson currently taking a break from television work, attention has turned to how the pub will evolve in the coming year. In a statement released by The Farmer’s Dog, management confirmed that recent adjustments to the seating configuration will allow additional tables to be made available for customers.
The statement explained that when January bookings were first released earlier this month, demand once again exceeded capacity almost immediately.
“As you’ll know, when January bookings went live at the start of December, they disappeared at their usual, alarming speed,” the statement said. “The internet groaned and the website briefly questioned its own existence.”
However, the team revealed that changes to the table layout mean a small number of extra reservations can now be offered.
“That’s it. A few extra spots that didn’t exist before,” the statement continued. “A festive bonus. A Christmas miracle.”
Fans Urged to Act Quickly
While the number of additional tables is limited, the announcement has been welcomed by fans who have repeatedly missed out on securing a reservation.
“If you’ve been meaning to visit in January and assumed it was hopeless, now’s your chance,” the statement added. “We wouldn’t hang about though. Miracles have a habit of disappearing.”
The wording reflects the pub’s now familiar tone: understated, humorous, and realistic about the level of demand it continues to face.

Clarkson’s Farm Set to Return
The Farmer’s Dog is expected to feature again in the upcoming fifth series of Clarkson’s Farm, due to air next year. The show has become one of Amazon Prime’s most successful UK factual series, offering an unfiltered view of rural life and the pressures faced by modern farmers and small businesses.
Although Clarkson has confirmed he is stepping back temporarily from some television commitments, there is no suggestion that either the pub or the farm project is slowing down. On the contrary, the latest announcement suggests the team is actively adapting to long-term demand.
A Pub That Reflects Its Owner
Since reopening, The Farmer’s Dog has positioned itself as a traditional countryside pub with a modern edge, mirroring Clarkson’s own approach to farming and hospitality. The latest seating update may appear modest on paper, but for would-be visitors, it represents a rare opportunity to secure a table at one of the region’s most talked-about venues.
As 2026 approaches, one thing is clear: even during a television pause, Jeremy Clarkson’s pub continues to draw attention, footfall, and enthusiasm in equal measure.
