Freddy Dodge Helps Miners Eliminate Mercury Use with New Gold Table | Gold Rush: Mine Rescue With Freddy & Juan
A Critical Upgrade for Cleaner Gold Recovery
Freddy Dodge and Juan Ibarra made a significant impact by providing a used but powerful finishing table to a small-scale mining crew struggling to extract fine gold without relying on mercury. This table enables the team to process gold more safely and efficiently, capturing even particles smaller than 300 mesh—something previously impossible with their existing methods.
Freddy, driven by a personal mission to eliminate the use of mercury in gold mining, covered the labor for the installation, asking the crew to contribute only $1,000 for the materials. The table not only improves cleanup results but also protects miners and their families from toxic exposure.

Heavy Sands Identified as the Root Problem
Lab analysis of the mine’s “amber sands” revealed their extraordinary density, consisting of 43.86% lead, 7.4% silver, and 1.55% copper. These elements significantly increased the material’s weight, making traditional separation methods ineffective.
This discovery confirmed why mercury had been necessary to capture a large portion of the gold. With the new table in place, the crew can now process their heavy material without the environmental and health hazards of mercury.
Engineering Fixes to Boost Efficiency
In addition to the table, Freddy addressed other mechanical issues that were holding the operation back:
- Clogged Hopper: A square steel tube was welded lengthwise inside the hopper to reduce material blockages on the belt, preventing delays and wear on the system.
- Grizzly Bar Tilt Adjustment: New steel supports were added to increase the angle of the grizzly bars by 5°, allowing oversized rocks to clear more easily and reducing the need for manual clearing.
These upgrades are expected to improve overall efficiency and reduce downtime significantly.

A Make-or-Break Season for the Crew
The mining crew, operating on a limited budget and without backup resources, has invested everything into this season’s success. Freddy’s assistance may prove to be the turning point. With better equipment, safer gold recovery methods, and improved infrastructure, their chances of success are now greatly improved.
Supporting Small-Scale Miners
Freddy Dodge and Juan Ibarra continue to demonstrate their commitment to supporting independent miners across the country. Their hands-on approach, expert engineering, and willingness to donate time and labor provide crucial lifelines to operations that would otherwise struggle to survive.
Their work stands as a testament to the importance of innovation, safety, and community support in the world of modern gold mining.
