Deadliest Catch’ Star ‘Wild’ Bill Wichrowski Shares Emotional Health Update Amid Cancer Battle

Fans Receive Encouraging News as ‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Wild Bill Wichrowski Shares Health Update Amid Cancer Battle

Fans of Deadliest Catch were relieved and encouraged as Captain Wild Bill Wichrowski provided a health update following his prostate cancer diagnosis. Known for his toughness and determination, Wichrowski has been open about his fight against cancer, using his platform to raise awareness and inspire others facing similar battles.

In a recent Facebook post, Wichrowski shared that his cancer treatment is progressing well. He is currently undergoing radioactive seed therapy and hormone treatments, which have shown positive results. “Numbers are great, not complaining—purely for information,” he wrote.

However, the reality star also acknowledged the challenges of hormone therapy, which significantly lowers testosterone levels, impacting how he feels. “Testosterone drops to near zero by design. I seem to be cancer-free now,” he shared, remaining optimistic despite these side effects.

Reflecting on his demanding career, the Summer Bay captain admitted that commercial fishing had always made him feel younger than his age. “I have always felt 10 to 15 years younger than my age. The job I have and being around a crew half my age—feels like the clock has caught up. Maybe a small price to pay,” he wrote.

He ended his message with an important reminder to his followers: “Thanks for the concern and best wishes. If you have symptoms, get checked.”

A Public Battle with Cancer
Wichrowski was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020, first revealing the news during the Deadliest Catch Season 19 finale. He later allowed cameras to document his journey in Season 20, showing the reality of battling cancer while continuing to do what he loves.

In a preview clip for the season, he shared his mindset upon hearing the diagnosis:

“One of the things I thought was, you know what? I’m not going to stop fishing. I’m going to keep going until I actually can’t.”

Rather than letting the diagnosis define him, Wichrowski pushed forward, determined to prove that life doesn’t stop after a cancer diagnosis.

“I allowed the news to be broadcast. I heard from a million people, ‘Oh, I hope you’re all right. They’re saying you’re going to have all these symptoms that will stop you.’ And I said, ‘There’s no way.'”

By sharing his experience, he hoped to inspire others facing similar battles:

“I was hoping that by keeping going, it would show people that if you have this, you can keep working, you can keep your life moving. I wasn’t going to stop unless I had to.”

A Beloved Captain in the Deadliest Catch Family
Wichrowski joined Deadliest Catch in Season 13 (2017) and quickly became a fan favorite for his fearless leadership and no-nonsense attitude. With Season 20 ending in October 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting news about the show’s return.

For now, the most important thing is that Wild Bill is winning his fight—proving that strength, resilience, and a positive attitude can make all the difference.
