Tony Beets Faces Environmental Crisis as Rock Truck Flips Over!

You can’t just dump dirty water into the creek. That’s not how it works!

Tony Beets has always run a tight ship on his mining operations, but today, he’s facing an environmental dilemma. Running the trommel too hard has filled the 30-acre settling pond with silt. If dirty water spills into the nearby creek, environmental authorities will shut Tony’s operation down.

Mike Takes Charge

Mike, without hesitation, orders the crew to shut down the trommel.

“Shut the plant down,” Mike commands. With no other option, Tony is forced to halt operations temporarily. The solution? Raise the dyke and water level in the pond to give the silt more time to settle, allowing clean water to flow back into the creek.

The Struggle to Raise the Dyke

Paradise Hill has a series of three interconnected ponds designed to clean the dirty water from the trommel. The problem? The top pond is full, and silt is clogging the water outlet, causing the water to discharge improperly.

To fix this, the crew needs to build up the dyke and raise the water level to create space for the silt to settle. The pressure is on, as it’s late in the season, and time is running out.

Mike’s Crew Gets to Work

Mike and his crew use a specialized side dumper to build up the dyke. As trucks dump their loads, Mike levels the road with the powerful D11 dozer.

“It’s better to shut down for a couple of days and do it right, than risk being shut down for the entire season,” Mike explains. But the situation takes a turn for the worse.

Disaster Strikes: The Truck Tips Over

While working, Mike faces an unexpected disaster. One of the side dump trucks tips over while navigating the dyke, nearly falling off a 15-foot drop.

Mike immediately starts working to stabilize the truck, knowing that if it falls, it could cause even more delays.

“Get me a chain!” Mike shouts, trying to reposition the truck. But the task isn’t easy. The truck is heavy, and it’s dangling precariously over the edge. Mike calls in the 220 excavator to help, but even with that, the weight proves too much to handle with just one machine.

The Truck’s Rescue Effort

Mike quickly realizes that he needs a second machine to help flip the truck back over. He calls in a 480 excavator, capable of lifting up to 20 tons, to assist.

But even then, it’s not easy. Mike faces challenges with positioning, the weight, and the limited space to work. “It’s just too much weight,” Mike says. “I don’t have enough room to apply the right force.”

As the job stalls, Tony becomes increasingly frustrated with the delay.

The Tension Mounts

“I’m annoyed because somehow it’s my fault when they do something stupid,” Tony grumbles.

With his only running plant shut down and no gold being collected for over 24 hours, Tony’s patience is wearing thin. But, Mike and the team keep at it, determined to get the truck back on the road and finish the dyke repairs.

The Final Push

After nearly two days of struggling, the truck is finally upright. With some creative maneuvering, Tony manages to pull the truck back onto the road.

“That’s cutting it a little too close,” Tony says, as Mike narrowly avoids a collision with the excavator. But the truck is back in action, and the dyke repairs can finally continue.

Back to Work

With the truck rolling again, Mike’s crew gets back to work on the dyke. The pressure is on, as Tony is behind on his gold production. To hit his 5,000-ounce goal, he needs to make up for lost time.

After a long and tense week, the crew finally brings in some gold from the trommel.

“More is always better, but take what you can get,” Tony says as they tally the gold. 143 ounces, worth over $350,000, is a step in the right direction, but there’s still a lot of work to do.

Tony Beets’ Gold Rush Struggles Continue

Despite all the setbacks, Tony Beets’ operation is slowly getting back on track. With only one wash plant running, it’s been a tough season. But Tony’s relentless drive ensures that, despite the challenges, the crew keeps pushing forward.
