GOLD RUSH

Kevin Beets Turns a Crew Shake-Up Into His Strongest Gold Weigh-In Yet

Season 16 Passes the Midpoint as Pressure Mounts

As Gold Rush moves beyond the halfway point of Season 16, operations across the Klondike shift into maximum output mode. For Parker Schnabel, that means pushing harder than ever, running four wash plants simultaneously in pursuit of a massive season target.

Elsewhere, the picture is far less stable. Rick Ness continues to battle setbacks at Vegas Valley, hoping to reverse a difficult run. Kevin Beets, meanwhile, is navigating the growing pains of leadership, from equipment issues to staffing shortages. But in the January 30 episode, Kevin finally catches a break.

A New Opportunity After a Setback

After being let go from Parker’s operation, Tayvin Peterson wasn’t ready to head home. Instead, he went looking for another chance—and found it at Kevin Beets’ site. Kevin happened to be short on rock truck drivers and loaders, making the timing ideal for both sides.

Kevin, the eldest son of Tony Beets, was preparing to open new ground at the Sphinx Cut. His aim was clear: hit 100 ounces per week. To make that happen, the wash plant needed to run around the clock. Tayvin was brought in to work the night shift alongside veteran miner Rick Johnson.

Trouble on the Night Shift

The move to 24/7 operations was immediately tested. Early in the morning, a massive rock jammed the hopper, forcing the wash plant to shut down. With production on the line, the response had to be fast.

Day-shift crew members Chelsea March and Tyler Potter arrived early to help. Together, the team cleared dirt from the hopper, wrapped a heavy chain around the boulder, and secured it to the grizzlies. With careful coordination, they lifted and freed the rock, allowing operations to resume.

Kevin was impressed with how Tayvin handled the pressure, seeing it as proof that giving him another opportunity had been the right call.

Kevin’s Best Weigh-In of the Season

The crew regrouped for their first gold weigh-in after running nonstop. The results were striking: 250.45 ounces, valued at roughly $876,000. It marked Kevin’s strongest weigh-in of the season and pushed his total gold haul past the $2 million mark.

For Kevin Beets, the numbers confirmed that the long hours, added manpower, and decisive leadership were starting to pay off. After weeks of frustration, the Sphinx Cut finally delivered, giving him renewed momentum at a critical point in the season.
