Gold Rush: Why did Kayla Johanson Leave ‘White Water’? Controversial Exit Revealed!
Kayla Johnson Quits Gold Rush: White Water After Season 6 Finale — Cites Drama, Disappointment, and a New Beginning
Gold Rush: White Water, the adrenaline-fueled spin-off of Discovery’s Gold Rush, has kept viewers hooked with its high-risk, high-reward gold diving missions in Alaska. But Season 6 brought more than just rugged adventure — it also marked a major shake-up in the cast.
On Friday night’s finale, fan favorite Kayla Johnson revealed that it would be her last appearance on the show. After a turbulent season filled with behind-the-scenes tension and production surprises, Kayla announced she was officially stepping away from the series.

“It’s better to move on to better things,” she wrote on social media, later adding, “I can’t keep following someone else around with less than satisfactory results each year while dealing with unnecessary drama.”
According to Kayla, Season 6 was particularly challenging — both emotionally and professionally. Viewers weren’t the only ones left confused when the show was suddenly placed on hiatus midway through the season. Longtime producer Tim Dalby admitted he was just as surprised as fans, saying he was unaware of Discovery’s decision to pause the show and emphasized that it had nothing to do with him.
Despite the bumpy rollout, Gold Rush: White Water returned on April 14. But by then, the cracks had deepened. Kayla cited escalating drama among the mining crew as one of the primary reasons for her departure.

Originally moving to Alaska in search of freedom and gold, Kayla also launched her own jewelry business — a passion project that she now plans to fully embrace. She assured her fans that while her time on television may be over, her journey is far from finished.
“I’ve found more gold than the show ever revealed,” she teased.
Looking ahead, Kayla announced plans to start her own YouTube channel, where she’ll document her solo mining adventures and life off-grid. She hopes to share a more authentic version of her story, free from reality TV constraints.
As she closes the Gold Rush chapter, Kayla thanked her fans for their support and promised they haven’t seen the last of her.
