Rick Ness: High Stakes and Rising Water

Rick Ness is gambling big in a race against time. He invested over $1 million into a bold new claim at Vegas Valley, and it’s finally starting to pay off—his crew recovered $670,000 in gold just last week. But his future remains uncertain due to water rights issues at Duncan Creek. Without a guaranteed license, he may not be able to mine there next year, putting his long-term future in jeopardy.

This week, Ness left the claim temporarily to meet with the agent working on his water license in Vancouver. In his absence, longtime friend and dependable crew member Brian Zeremba took over operations. Unfortunately, the timing couldn’t have been worse.

The dig site began flooding due to rising groundwater levels after the crew reached below the water table, turning everything into a muddy mess. With frustration mounting, Foreman Buzz Lago was tasked with digging a deeper pit and deploying a water pump to drain the site—but the flooding forced a temporary shutdown of the wash plant, costing them precious gold and time.

To recover momentum, Brian turned to the old pad at Rally Valley, where Ness had previously struck big. But mechanical issues continued to plague the crew. When Z’s loader broke down, Ryan Cantonius cleverly salvaged a working sensor from Ness’s side-by-side vehicle to get it running again.

Still, not everything could be fixed that easily. Ness returned from Vancouver visibly frustrated, with no solid answers about his water license. At weigh-in, the results were disappointing—122.82 ounces, worth over $320,000, less than half of what they’d hoped for. With 200 ounces still needed to meet their season goal, Rick’s team is running out of time and options—but they’re not giving up.

Parker Schnabel: Farewell to Big Red, Hello to Dominion Creek

Parker Schnabel isn’t just fighting to meet a gold target—he’s trying to save his entire season. With temperatures dropping fast, every minute counts. In a last-ditch effort to boost production, Parker turned to the Bridge Cut—a patch of thawed ground that he hoped still held promise.

Joined by Tyson Lee, one of his most trusted crew members, Parker began pulling thawed pay from the perimeter and feeding it into his legendary wash plant, Big Red. But after five relentless months of service, Big Red finally gave out. The side tension bars holding the screens in place snapped—marking the end of an era.

After 12 seasons and 34,300 ounces recovered (worth over $53 million), Big Red was declared dead. But Parker didn’t waste a second. He made the call to bring in “Bob,” a massive idle wash plant that had been sitting at Sulfur Creek for nearly three weeks. With Lee leading the charge, the crew moved Bob to Dominion Creek in just eight hours—a lightning pace in mining terms.

At weigh-in, Parker’s team was rewarded. Big Red’s final cleanup delivered 96.02 ounces (about $250,000). Bob’s first run was a massive success, producing 290.05 ounces (around $766,000). Meanwhile, Roxan’s crew at the Elbow Cut added another 276.01 ounces. In total, Parker’s team surged past 6,088.02 ounces—worth more than $16 million. But with time running out, he knows the race isn’t over yet.

Tony Beets: The King of the Klondike Hits His Goal

No one is more synonymous with Klondike gold than Tony Beets. Heading into Episode 22, he was just 180 ounces shy of his ambitious 5,000-ounce season goal—and with multiple wash plants running, he wasn’t stopping there.

Tony wanted to go even bigger by activating a third wash plant at the Hester Cut. However, swampy terrain delayed equipment moves. Monica Beets proposed a clever pivot—reprocessing old tailings left behind by previous miners. With modern tech, those piles could still hold serious value.

Tony loved the idea and surprised Monica with a brand-new $500,000 custom-built wash plant capable of handling the massive boulders found in tailings. As the team prepared the new setup, Monica asked, “I still get a birthday present, right?” Tony replied with a dry, “We’ll see.”

With help from son Mike and nephew Michael, the Beets crew got the plant up and running just in time for the final push. At weigh-in, the results were golden. Indian River’s Sluselot comeback cut produced 205.80 ounces ($543,000), pushing them past 5,000 ounces. Mike’s work at Paradise Hill added 264.76 more—bringing their total to 5,290 ounces, worth nearly $14 million.

For Tony, it’s more than just a payday—it’s a testament to years of hard work, innovation, and family-driven grit.

And will the Beets family push their total even higher?
