Discovery Channel Launches Epic November Lineup: Expedition Unknown and Expedition Files Return with Back-to-Back Premieres

Discovery Channel is turning up the adventure this fall with the return of two of its most thrilling series — Expedition Unknown and Expedition Files.
Both shows are set to premiere Wednesday, November 5, 2025, forming an all-new double feature that promises daring expeditions, groundbreaking discoveries, and globe-spanning intrigue.

Josh Gates Heads Back to the Great Pyramid

For Season 16, adventurer and explorer Josh Gates embarks on his boldest journeys yet, beginning inside one of the world’s greatest ancient mysteries: Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza.

“This season, I’m going after the adventures I used to dream about as a kid,” said Gates.

“From hunting for the real-life treasure that inspired The Goonies, to crawling through hidden tunnels beneath the Great Pyramid, to chasing a gold rush fortune with Parker Schnabel — this season proves the world is still full of wonder.”


Inside Expedition Unknown Season 16

According to Discovery, the new season will feature unprecedented access, state-of-the-art technology, and heart-pounding discoveries.

“With exclusive access to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, Gates explores cutting-edge theories about how the Great Pyramid was constructed,” Discovery revealed.
“Using advanced 3D scans of never-before-seen tunnels, he leads a groundbreaking experiment that could reveal secrets hidden for thousands of years.”

This season’s adventures will take Gates across the world, including:

  • The Egyptian Desert: Unraveling the construction mysteries of the Great Pyramid.
  • The Wild West: Partnering with Gold Rush star Parker Schnabel to chase the fortune from a long-lost stagecoach heist.
  • Oregon Coast: A real-life Goonies treasure hunt marking the film’s 40th anniversary.
  • Baltic Sea: Diving deep in search of a lost Nazi submarine.
  • Nicaragua: Braving crocodile-infested waters to locate Cornelius Vanderbilt’s vanished steamship.

Expedition Files Season 3 — New Evidence, New Legends

Right after Expedition Unknown, Expedition Files returns for its third season at 10 p.m. ET/PT, taking on some of the most enduring mysteries in modern history.

The season premiere revisits one of America’s great unsolved cases — the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa — uncovering new evidence that may finally crack the case.

Discovery teases that this season, Josh Gates will also:
