Close Call With a Trawler

While hauling gear, Sig spots a dragger heading straight toward his string of pots. With thousands of dollars of equipment at risk, Sig fights to get the vessel’s attention. After tense moments, the trawler finally responds and alters course, narrowly avoiding catastrophic damage.

A Dangerous Season for the Fleet

Meanwhile, the season’s terrible weather continues to punish every crew. Ice buildup, massive waves, and zero visibility create nonstop hazards as the crabbers push through freezing storms to keep gear in the water.

Man Overboard on the Northwestern

During a routine set, a crew member slips and falls directly into the icy water. The team reacts instantly—throwing a ring, maneuvering the boat, and hauling him back on deck. The near-fatal accident shakes everyone, highlighting how quickly disaster can strike.

Medical Scare and Emotional Tension

On top of the dangerous deck conditions, Sig receives an emotional call from Mandy, who reveals complications with her pregnancy. Though reassured the baby is safe, the stress adds extra weight to an already grueling season.

The Wizard Battles Ice and Injury

Aboard the Wizard, Captain Keith Coburn and his crew deal with violent seas and dangerous ice buildup. A falling chunk of ice knocks OJ unconscious, prompting fears of a concussion. The crew stabilizes him, but Keith refuses to risk further injury and pulls him off deck.

Steering Failure and a Near-Capsize

In monstrous waves, the Titan Explorer suddenly loses steering. The rudder jams, sending the vessel into a helpless spin. After a frantic search, the crew discovers debris lodged in the rudder post—just inches away from total catastrophe.

Fire Erupts on the Wizard

Back on the Wizard, smoke erupts from the bow as a fire breaks out below deck. Tyler is trapped inside as flames build. The crew scrambles to deploy CO₂, rip open the hatch, and haul him out using the crane sling. It’s a narrow rescue—one of the closest the Wizard has faced.

A Dead Ship and a Midnight Search

Hours later, the Titan Explorer becomes a dead ship on the sea—no power, no lights, drifting like a ghost in 50-knot winds. Captain Keith locates the life raft after four hours of searching in darkness. One by one, the Titan crew is hauled aboard and brought to safety.
