The Revolting Truth Behind Jeremy Clarkson’s Cotswolds Pub
Jeremy Clarkson Reveals Disgusting Problem at His Cotswolds Pub
The Farmer’s Dog: A New Venture Turned Local Hotspot
Television personality Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about an unpleasant problem at his Cotswolds pub, The Farmer’s Dog, admitting that not everything about running a business is as idyllic as it seems.
The former Top Gear and Grand Tour presenter bought the Windmill Pub in Asthall, near Burford, for around £1 million in 2023. After months of renovations, he reopened the venue in August 2024 under its new name, The Farmer’s Dog.
Since reopening, the pub has become a massive success, drawing both tourists and locals eager to enjoy a pint in the same countryside retreat featured in Clarkson’s hit Amazon Prime series, Clarkson’s Farm.

Clarkson Admits to a Revolting Issue
Despite its popularity, Clarkson recently confessed that managing the pub hasn’t been all smooth sailing. In a video posted to the Hawkstone Instagram account, the 65-year-old revealed a rather gross problem that continues to baffle him.
“It’s difficult, it’s confusing, and it’s hard work [running a pub],” Clarkson said.
“The thing that baffles me most of all — and forgive me for this — is that people go to the lavatory, sit on it, and somehow miss the bowl.”
Clearly exasperated, he added:
“I cannot understand how they’re doing it, and apparently, you’re not allowed to put CCTV in the cubicles, so we’ll never know.
I think, how have you got it all over the floor and up the walls? There’s a lot to infuriate me.”
Life as a Publican: Harder Than It Looks
Clarkson, who has spent years running Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington, admitted that managing a pub brings its own challenges. Between crowded weekends, supply issues, and now — mystery bathroom offenders — he says the experience is far from relaxing.
Fans of Clarkson’s Farm will recognize The Farmer’s Dog as one of the new ventures featured in the most recent series, which streamed on Prime Video between May and June 2025.
The pub has become a key part of Clarkson’s growing Cotswolds empire, which also includes the Diddly Squat Farm Shop and his Hawkstone Lager brand.

The Farmer’s Dog Returns in Season 5
Despite the toilet troubles, Clarkson’s pub will continue to feature in upcoming episodes of Clarkson’s Farm.
Season 5 has already wrapped filming and is expected to be released in 2026, with The Farmer’s Dog once again playing a central role in the storyline.
With his trademark humor, Clarkson remains undeterred by the chaos of pub life — even if it means occasionally dealing with messy customers.
“Running a pub’s supposed to be relaxing,” he joked. “Clearly, I was wrong.”
