Richard Osman Playfully Calls Jeremy Clarkson a “Coward” Over New Book Release
Clarkson’s Latest Book Hits Shelves
TV icon Jeremy Clarkson is preparing to launch his latest release, Diddly Squat: The Farmer’s Dog, this week — a follow-up to his hugely popular Diddly Squat series chronicling life on his Oxfordshire farm.
But while fans are eagerly awaiting the new instalment, fellow presenter and author Richard Osman couldn’t resist a cheeky jab at Clarkson’s timing.

“The Coward’s Way” to a Christmas Bestseller
Speaking on his hit podcast The Rest is Entertainment, Osman jokingly branded Clarkson “a coward” for releasing the book so close to Christmas — a strategic move to dominate holiday book charts.
He said:
“Clarkson is bringing out another Diddly Squat and bringing it out quite close to Christmas, which is the coward’s way of bringing out a book.
It gives you more chance of being a Christmas number one. If he had any guts at all, Clarkson, he’d have brought that out already… if he was any sort of a man.”
Osman’s light-hearted remark sparked laughter among listeners, as both men are known for their sharp wit and mutual respect within British entertainment.
Predictions for the Christmas Number One
The Thursday Murder Club author went on to share his predictions for the 2024 festive book charts, suggesting that artist Charlie Mackesy may steal the top spot with Always Remember — a sequel to the global hit The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.
Osman continued:
“He has a new book out with the same characters, and I think it will be our Christmas number one.
I’d like to be the biggest-selling book, but just in that Christmas week — the big one. I hope to sell more than him because I hope to sell more than everybody.”
Last year’s Guinness World Records 2025 took the Christmas crown, and Osman believes it will be a strong contender again, alongside autobiographies by Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Paul Gascoigne, and Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland.
Clarkson Expands His Brand Beyond Books
While Diddly Squat: The Farmer’s Dog is set to delight fans, Clarkson has also been busy expanding his growing brand empire.
According to The Sun, the Clarkson’s Farm star has filed a trademark application for his beloved pig “Richard Ham”, named after his former Top Gear co-host Richard Hammond.
The trademark reportedly covers a variety of products, including clothing, cookbooks, homeware, and Christmas decorations, hinting at Clarkson’s next business venture.
The Rise of Richard Ham — From Runt to Star
Richard Ham, once the smallest and weakest of the litter, captured viewers’ hearts on Clarkson’s Farm after being spared from slaughter and lovingly hand-reared.
Clarkson’s partner Lisa Hogan recently shared an update on social media showing the now-massive pig strutting around Diddly Squat Farm.
She wrote:
“Look who it is!!! It’s Richard ‘porker’ Ham.”
Playfully, she added:
“Yes, you’re huge. Yes, it’s because you’ve been hand-fed for all these months.”
A Year of Big Moves for Clarkson
Between new books, television success, and now an expanding line of farm-themed trademarks, Jeremy Clarkson shows no sign of slowing down. Whether he’s sparking laughter, stirring headlines, or launching new ventures, the outspoken presenter continues to dominate British entertainment — one field at a time.
