Piers Morgan Finally Reveals the Truth Behind Clarkson’s “Awkward Swing” and Broken Finger
Piers Morgan Reveals the Full Story Behind Jeremy Clarkson Punching Him in the Head
Broadcaster Piers Morgan has opened up once again about the famous incident in which Jeremy Clarkson punched him in the head — an altercation that left Morgan with a permanent scar and Clarkson with a broken finger.
According to Morgan, the clash happened in 2004 after the Daily Mirror published photos of Clarkson with a woman who was not his wife, despite Clarkson’s request for the images to be kept out of the paper.
The Incident That Left a Permanent Scar
In his new book Woke Is Dead, Morgan recalls:
“He ended up punching me before we settled things at the British Press Awards. I’ve still got the scar on my forehead, and it wasn’t entirely unjustified.”
He added humorously that Clarkson’s punch wasn’t particularly strong — and that Clarkson actually broke his finger hitting Morgan’s head:
“Which is quite satisfying.”
How the Feud Finally Ended
Despite the violent past, both men eventually decided to put the feud behind them.
Morgan explained:
“He contacted me out of the blue and said, ‘Morgan, Clarkson here, drink?’
We met in my local pub and actually had a great night.”
Their children were even asked to act as “peace treaty ratifiers,” sealing an unexpected truce.
Morgan admitted:
“We’re never going to be best buddies, but we now tolerate each other’s existence without wanting to punch each other.”
Clarkson’s Version of Events
Clarkson previously detailed his side of the fight in a column for The Times. According to him, the argument escalated quickly:
“So I punched him. And then I punched him again… And then I thought, ‘You know what? I don’t think this would ever get boring.’
So I punched him again — and broke my finger.”
The two have since joked publicly about the incident.
A Punchline on Prime-Time TV
When Piers Morgan appeared on a Christmas episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, hosted by Clarkson, he couldn’t resist referencing the old feud:
“I can think of a million reasons why I shouldn’t trust you — including this scar on my forehead.”
Morgan later joked on social media:
“BREAKING. Yes, it happened.
I’ve appeared on Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, hosted by a man who once repeatedly punched me in the head.
It airs on Boxing Day — appropriately.”
