New Year’s Day Crash Near Jeremy Clarkson’s Pub Prompts Emergency Response and Road Closures
Four Hospitalised After Car Crash Near Jeremy Clarkson’s Pub
Four people were taken to hospital following a serious road traffic collision close to The Farmer’s Dog, the Cotswolds pub owned by Jeremy Clarkson.
The incident occurred at around 4.40pm on New Year’s Day at the junction of the A40 and the B4047, near Burford in Oxfordshire.

Emergency Services Respond to Serious Collision
Thames Valley Police confirmed that the occupants of both vehicles involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital.
Emergency services attended the scene promptly, with the A40 closed to traffic while crews dealt with the aftermath of the collision. Firefighters from Witney and Burford fire stations were deployed, alongside a specialist rescue unit from Kidlington.
Although those involved had already exited their vehicles by the time fire crews arrived, firefighters assisted paramedics in providing urgent medical care at the scene.
Road Closures and Traffic Disruption
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service issued warnings to motorists, advising drivers to avoid the area due to significant disruption.
A spokesperson said:
“Due to a road traffic collision, the A40 is currently closed outside The Farmer’s Dog pub near Burford and the roundabout with the B4047.”
The closure caused major delays in the surrounding area throughout New Year’s Day.
Police Confirm Four Serious Injuries, No Arrests
Police initially reported that a 23-year-old man had suffered serious injuries. However, Thames Valley Police later confirmed that all four people travelling in the two vehicles were seriously injured and required hospital treatment.
At this stage, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and have appealed for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who was travelling through or near the junction at the time.

The Farmer’s Dog and Clarkson’s Expanding Rural Ventures
The Farmer’s Dog opened in 2024 and follows the success of Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm and Hawkstone lager, both of which feature prominently in Clarkson’s Farm.
Clarkson has repeatedly highlighted his commitment to British agriculture, with four of the eight drinks on tap at The Farmer’s Dog made entirely from UK-sourced ingredients. He has previously said demand from the brewery could increase the British hops industry by as much as 30 per cent.
Despite the commercial success of Hawkstone, Clarkson has recently stated that he has no plans to further expand his business portfolio.
Investigation Ongoing
Police enquiries into the New Year’s Day collision remain ongoing. Anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area is urged to contact Thames Valley Police as investigations continue.
