Jeremy Clarkson thought he was ‘done’ and shares what turned career around
Jeremy Clarkson Admits He Thought His Career Was “Done” Before Clarkson’s Farm Revival
Jeremy Clarkson believed his television career had peaked long before Clarkson’s Farm became one of Prime Video’s biggest successes. According to long-time producer Andy Wilman, the former Top Gear host never expected to land another hit series after leaving the BBC.
For the past four years, Clarkson’s Farm has captivated audiences with its candid, often humorous look at Clarkson’s attempt to manage Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds. The programme quickly gained a dedicated fan base when it launched in 2021, with viewers embracing the show’s mix of farming challenges, rural mishaps, and Clarkson’s trademark wit.

Clarkson Didn’t Expect Another Hit
Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Wilman said the success of Clarkson’s Farm took everyone by surprise.
“That was absolutely out of the blue. Jeremy never thought he was going to have another hit, you know? We were done.”
Wilman explained that their contract with Amazon for The Grand Tour required continued production, which led the team to explore new solo projects. When Clarkson suggested documenting his life on the farm, television executives expressed skepticism.
“If I had a quid for every exec who rang me and went, ‘Can you talk him out of that?’” Wilman joked.
Clarkson himself admitted he warned Wilman that a farming series could become “the most boring thing,” but the show’s cast — including Kaleb Cooper, Charlie Ireland, Gerald Cooper, Harriet Cowan, and Lisa Hogan — proved essential to its success.

Kaleb Cooper Lands His Own Series
Riding the wave of Clarkson’s Farm’s popularity, breakout star Kaleb Cooper has secured his own Prime Video programme. The four-part series, currently filming in Australia, will follow Cooper as he leaves Chipping Norton to test whether his farming expertise can go international.
“Australia here I come!” Cooper said. “I’m discovering if I can make my contracting business go international.”
A Career Revival No One Predicted
What began as a reluctant idea has evolved into one of Clarkson’s most acclaimed projects, revitalising his career and reshaping public interest in UK farming. With more spin-offs emerging and global fan engagement growing, the unexpected success of Clarkson’s Farm continues to expand Clarkson’s influence far beyond motoring television.
