Jeremy Clarkson teases 2026 return with May and Hammond
Jeremy Clarkson Hints at Possible 2026 Reunion with May and Hammond
Jeremy Clarkson has sparked renewed speculation about a potential on-screen reunion with James May and Richard Hammond after making a cryptic social media comment that many fans believe points to a 2026 return.
The trio are best known for their time together on Top Gear, where they became global television icons through car reviews, long-distance races, and ambitious challenges that redefined motoring entertainment.
A Partnership That Defined an Era
Clarkson, May, and Hammond presented Top Gear together for more than a decade until 2015. During that period, the programme became one of the BBC’s most successful exports, attracting audiences worldwide and turning its presenters into household names.
Their time on the show came to an abrupt end when Clarkson’s BBC contract was terminated following allegations of verbal and physical abuse towards a producer. The decision led to the departure of all three presenters.
Life After Top Gear
Following their exit from the BBC, the trio reunited on Amazon Prime Video with The Grand Tour, which ran for several seasons before concluding with its final episode in September 2024.
Since then, each presenter has pursued individual projects. Clarkson has enjoyed major success with Clarkson’s Farm, filmed at Diddly Squat Farm. The series, which follows his attempts to run a large rural estate, has aired four seasons so far, with a fifth scheduled for release next year.
Top Gear After the Trio
In the years since Clarkson, May, and Hammond left, Top Gear has undergone several format changes and presenter line-ups. Most recently, the show was fronted by Chris Harris, Paddy McGuinness, and Freddie Flintoff.
Production was disrupted in 2023 after Flintoff suffered a serious crash while filming, leading to uncertainty about the programme’s long-term future.
James May Reflects on the Ending
Recent speculation was reignited after a quote from James May circulated on social media, in which he described the end of their time on Top Gear as “very unfortunate”.
May said he believed the situation could have been resolved, suggesting it was the result of pressure and high stress rather than something that required the show to end in its original form.

Clarkson’s Comment Fuels Speculation
Responding to a fan who encouraged the trio to reunite, Clarkson replied with a brief but intriguing message:
“It will be back in May.”
The remark has prompted widespread speculation about whether it refers to a future television project, a reunion with Richard Hammond and James May, or something else entirely. No official announcement has been made.
Fans Remain Invested
The BBC has continued to air reruns of classic Top Gear episodes featuring the original trio, all of which remain available on iPlayer. Their enduring popularity suggests strong audience appetite for any form of reunion.
For now, Clarkson’s comment remains open to interpretation—but it has been enough to reignite hopes of one of the most recognisable partnerships in British television making a return in 2026.
