TV star Jeremy Clarkson has repeated his condemnation of Peter Mandelson from years ago in the midst of an investigation into the politician’s relationship to Jeffrey Epstein.
The Clarkson’s Farm presenter reshared a scathing opinion about Mandelson in which he said the Labour MP is a ‘conniving idiot’.
It comes just days after fresh posts on Elon Musk’s X saw the celebrity farmer describe Mandelson as a ‘ghastly little weasel’.
The 65-year-old, who owns two businesses in Oxfordshire, with Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington and The Farmer’s Dog pub in Astall near Burford, has been notoriously frank with his opinions throughout his career.
These latest stabs at the former Labour minister – a role which never gets much acclaim in Clarkson’s eyes – come off the back of a criminal investigation launched into Mandelson this week.
Scotland Yard are looking into allegations that Peter Mandelson passed market-sensitive information to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Files released by the US Department of Justice apparently showed Mandelson passing material to Epstein while serving as business secretary in Gordon Brown’s Labour administration as it dealt with the 2008 financial crash and its aftermath.
Jeremy Clarkson has since made a series of posts on his social media pages condemning the politician, today (Saturday, February 7) sharing an excerpt from an article he wrote nearly two decades ago.
Accompanied with a caption from Clarkson which reads “I wrote this in 2009”, an article shared in an Instagram post said: “I’ve given the matter a great deal of thought all week, and I’m afraid I’ve decided that it’s no good putting Peter Mandelson in a prison.
“I’m afraid he will have to be tied to the front of a van and driven round the country until he isn’t alive any more.
“He announced last week that middle-class children will simply not be allowed into the country’s top universities even if they have 4,000 A-Levels, because all the places will be taken by Albanians and guillemots and whatever other stupid bandwagon the conniving idiot has leapt onto in the mean time.
“I hate Peter Mandelson.
Mandelson was appointed Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and Lord President of the Council (Privy Council Office) in June 2009 under Gordon Brown.
Clarkson earlier took to X to share his thoughts on the politician, when a user posted an old clip from Top Gear showing the TV star speaking about the politician in the past.
Accompanying the video, the poster wrote: “Jeremy Clarkson years ahead of everyone again on Peter Mandelson.
“His genius sometimes… it’s almost frightening.”
Mr Clarkson replied with a putdown of Mandelson and added: “I hated him so much then. And even more so now. Ghastly little weasel.”
The Met Police confirmed an investigation had been launched into 72-year-old Mandelson for misconduct in public office offences.
Mandelson quit the House of Lords earlier this week.
