Jeremy Clarkson ‘frightened’ as he stops filming for first time in 40 years
Jeremy Clarkson Admits He’s ‘Frightened’ to Stop Filming After 40 Years
Jeremy Clarkson has confessed that he is “genuinely frightened” about stepping away from filming for the first time in four decades, as he prepares for a rare pause following the success of Clarkson’s Farm.
The 65-year-old broadcaster has been a constant presence on British television through programmes such as Top Gear, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, and more recently Amazon Prime Video’s hit farming series, which launched in 2021.

A Career Defined by Constant Filming
Clarkson’s Farm introduced a new side of the presenter to audiences, as he documented the unpredictable realities of running Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire alongside farm manager Kaleb Cooper.
The series highlighted both the humour and hardship of modern farming, from weather chaos and bureaucratic hurdles to Clarkson’s outspoken defence of farmers across the UK. The show quickly attracted a fresh wave of fans and became one of Prime Video’s biggest unscripted successes.
Disasters at Diddly Squat Farm
Over the past year, Clarkson has been candid about the difficulties he has faced beyond the cameras. After opening his farm shop and The Farmer’s Dog pub, he encountered what he described as a string of “disasters”.
These included serious personal health issues and the devastating impact of a bovine tuberculosis outbreak that forced the destruction of cattle on his farm — an experience he described as heartbreaking.
A Break After Series Five
Although the fifth series of Clarkson’s Farm has yet to air — expected next spring — Clarkson and the production team are preparing to step back.
Previously, he explained the decision by saying:
“Whatever happens, we’ll definitely take a short break as the crews are all worn out. We’ve been filming two or three days a week, every week, for five years. Everybody could do with a rest.”

‘Genuinely Frightened’ to Stop Working
Despite acknowledging the need for a pause, Clarkson has now admitted that the idea of not filming terrifies him.
Speaking ahead of the launch of his new ITV quiz show Millionaire Hot Seat, he said:
“You would rot if you didn’t. I’m genuinely frightened because until March, I won’t be filming a TV show for the first time in forty years. That will be three months of ‘sh*t’.”
The new programme, adapted from the Australian format, features six contestants rotating through a “hot seat” as they attempt to climb a prize ladder by answering questions correctly.
Health Scare and Lifestyle Changes
Clarkson also provided an update on his health following a major scare in October 2024, when he revealed he was “days from death” after collapsing while on holiday. He was rushed into emergency surgery and fitted with a life-saving stent.
Since then, he has made significant lifestyle changes, including losing three stone in weight.
“I still really look forward to going out to eat,” he said, “but I’m careful not to snack on biscuits because that fills you up. I’m looking forward to going out tonight and having a curry.”
‘More Energy Than Before’
Reflecting on the changes, Clarkson said the weight loss and medical treatment have left him feeling better than he has in years.
“I walk further, I’ve got more energy, and now I’ve got my stents in, I’m energised,” he added.
As Clarkson prepares for his first real break in decades, fans are left wondering whether the pause will simply be temporary — or the start of a new chapter for one of Britain’s most recognisable television figures.
