Jeremy Clarkson Explains Why His Pub’s Food is Prepared Away from Site

Jeremy Clarkson’s Cotswolds Pub: Food Prepared 10 Miles Away from the Venue

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that some of the food served at his Cotswolds pub, The Farmer’s Dog, is being prepared at a kitchen unit located 10 miles away, on an industrial estate in Eynsham. This discovery comes as Clarkson’s pub continues to grow in popularity, thanks to its appearances on his Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm.

The Farmer’s Dog pub, formerly known as The Windmill, was purchased by the television star last year for around £1 million. Since then, Clarkson has attracted a variety of famous guests, including Status Quo drummer John Coghlan. Clarkson has made it clear from the beginning that his pub will focus on British produce, with a menu that uses only ingredients sourced from local farms. His website promotes this, boasting that the food will always be in season and “absolutely f***ing delicious.”

However, it has now been revealed that some of the food served at the pub is being prepared in a more industrial setting. A kitchen unit on a small industrial estate in Eynsham has been rented by Clarkson to prepare items like vegetables, baked goods, and meats, which are then sent to The Farmer’s Dog. The kitchen is located on a new-build estate, away from the rural pub setting, and it has been reported that the exact items being prepared there are not fully disclosed.

The 65-year-old Clarkson explained that the reason for this off-site kitchen is the limited space in the pub’s own kitchen. He stated, “The problem we have is that the kitchen at the Farmer’s Dog is very small and to enlarge it would mean getting planning permission from the council.” As a result, Clarkson has opted to do basic food preparation in the Witney prep kitchen to meet the high demand. He emphasized that this is a common practice among many small pubs and restaurants, adding, “No one minds so long as the food is good and ours very much is.”

Clarkson also reiterated his commitment to using only British ingredients at both his on-site and off-site kitchens. There has been no attempt to hide the fact that food is being prepped away from the pub. In fact, local press outlets have been used to recruit staff for the Eynsham unit, ensuring transparency.

The revelation about Clarkson’s food preparation process comes at a time when his pub and public persona are in the spotlight. Recently, Clarkson made headlines for banning all Labour MPs from his pub following the government’s budget announcement. He shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he had banned all Labour MPs except Markus Campbell-Savours, the MP for Penrith and Solway, who opposed his party’s proposed changes to inheritance tax affecting family farms.

The announcement about the off-site kitchen has sparked some debate, but Clarkson remains confident in his approach. Whether his food preparation process will continue to raise eyebrows or not, his commitment to British produce and quality remains at the heart of his venture.
