Fans Rally Behind Jeremy Clarkson After He Questions Trump’s Statement

Fans Applaud Jeremy Clarkson’s Public Dig at Donald Trump

Fans of Jeremy Clarkson have reacted enthusiastically after the broadcaster took a pointed swipe at Donald Trump, following renewed controversy surrounding the former US president’s comments about the UK armed forces.

Why Jeremy Clarkson could be Britain's Donald Trump

The Controversy Behind the Comment

The moment came amid an ongoing row sparked by Mr Trump’s remarks about NATO allies’ roles in Afghanistan. He had claimed that some countries sent troops but “stayed a little back, a little off the front lines” — comments that drew strong criticism in the UK, given the country’s long and costly involvement in the conflict.

Britain joined the US in Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks, with 457 British service personnel losing their lives during the campaign.

Trump Issues a Follow-Up Statement

Following the backlash, Mr Trump released a new statement on January 24, praising the “great and very brave soldiers of the United Kingdom” and acknowledging those who had died.

That response was welcomed by Rupert Lowe, who described it as a “very honourable statement”.

Clarkson’s Sharp Reply

Clarkson, however, was unconvinced. Responding directly to Mr Lowe on social media, the Clarkson’s Farm star wrote simply:
“Well now it just isn’t.”

The short remark quickly caught the attention of his followers.

Fans Rally Behind Clarkson

Supporters were quick to voice their approval. Some responded with laughter, while others praised Clarkson for speaking plainly. Several commenters referenced friends and family members who served — and died — in Afghanistan, expressing doubt about the sincerity of Mr Trump’s remarks.

Others applauded Clarkson for standing up for British service personnel, particularly given his ties to rural Oxfordshire and RAF Brize Norton, one of the UK’s most significant military bases.

A Divided Reaction Online

Not everyone agreed. Some users argued that Mr Trump’s statement should be taken at face value and urged Clarkson to stay out of political debate. Others felt the criticism was unnecessary, suggesting the follow-up comments were intended to ease tensions.

Clarkson No Stranger to Speaking Out

Clarkson, who runs Diddly Squat Farm, has never shied away from controversial opinions, whether on farming, politics, or international affairs. This latest exchange only reinforced his reputation for blunt, unscripted commentary — something many of his fans clearly continue to enjoy.
