Clarkson Refuses Customer Request as New Pub Ban Introduced
Jeremy Clarkson Introduces New Ban at His Cotswolds Pub
Jeremy Clarkson has added a new restriction at his Cotswolds pub in Oxfordshire, after a customer’s request was politely but firmly refused.
The former Top Gear and Grand Tour presenter bought The Windmill in Asthall for around £1 million last year. After extensive renovations, the venue reopened in August 2024 under a new name: The Farmer’s Dog.

A Pub With Strict 100% British Sourcing Rules
From the moment it opened, Clarkson’s west Oxfordshire pub has followed one strict principle:
every product served must be 100% British.
This rule has already led to bans on items like Coca-Cola, imported coffee beans, and certain spices. Now, another item has been added to the list.
Birthday Cakes Now Banned — Even for Special Occasions
A customer recently asked if they could bring a birthday cake for a planned celebration at the pub. The staff responded politely but declined, explaining that Clarkson’s sourcing rules still apply — even to items brought in by guests.
According to The Sun, the message stated:
“As part of our commitment to back British farming, we kindly ask that only 100 per cent British food products are brought into the pub, this sadly includes birthday cakes.”
Clarkson’s policy also specifies that ingredients used must come from within 16 miles of the pub.
The Farmer’s Dog in Clarkson’s Farm Series
The Farmer’s Dog featured prominently in the most recent season of Clarkson’s Farm, which aired on Prime Video across May and June 2024. The series spotlighted both the challenges and successes of launching the pub with such strict British-only rules.
Filming for Season 5 has now wrapped, with Clarkson confirming that the episodes are in post-production ahead of an expected 2026 release.
A Strict Policy That’s Here to Stay
With Jeremy Clarkson doubling down on his commitment to British farming, it appears the ban on non-local items — including birthday cakes — is unlikely to change anytime soon.
Even celebrations must follow the rules at The Farmer’s Dog.
