Jeremy Clarkson Invited to Slade’s Oxford Gig by Rock Legend Dave Hill
Rock Veteran Extends Personal Invitation
Dave Hill, guitarist of the legendary rock band Slade, has personally invited Jeremy Clarkson to attend the group’s upcoming performance in Oxford. The concert will take place at the O2 Academy on Cowley Road and forms part of Slade’s final tour.
Speaking ahead of the show, Hill said he would be delighted to see the Clarkson’s Farm star in the audience, adding that Clarkson would likely appreciate the band’s music given his generation and tastes.
Mutual Admiration for Clarkson’s Work
In an interview with the Oxford Mail, Hill praised Clarkson’s television career, particularly his years on Top Gear alongside James May and Richard Hammond.
“There was a real funny side to the craziness of what he was doing with the driving shows,” Hill said, recalling Clarkson’s often unconventional motoring stunts. “Half the car would be missing and he’d still be driving down the road. You’d have to be him to get away with that.”
Hill also revealed that he regularly watches Clarkson’s Farm, which is filmed in Oxfordshire, describing Clarkson’s humour and self-awareness as key to the show’s appeal.
Praise for Clarkson’s Farm and On-Screen Persona
Hill highlighted the contrast between Clarkson’s confidence and the way he presents himself on screen.
“It’s so funny watching him buy massive tractors that look ridiculous for a simple job,” he said. “You’re laughing at it, but he knows exactly what he’s doing.”
According to Hill, that balance between humour and competence is what keeps audiences coming back.
Possible Visit to Clarkson’s Pub
Hill also suggested he might stop by The Farmer’s Dog, Clarkson’s pub in Asthall, following the Oxford gig, depending on travel plans.
However, he admitted that he would not be sampling Clarkson’s Hawkstone lager, joking that he prefers wine over beer.
“I’m afraid he wouldn’t get that side of me,” Hill said, “but I do like wine.”
Slade’s Oxford Show Marks Final Tour Moment
Dave Hill’s Slade will perform in Oxford on Tuesday, December 16, marking one of the final dates of the band’s farewell tour. Clarkson’s potential appearance has added an extra layer of interest for fans, blending classic British rock with one of television’s most recognisable figures.
Whether or not Clarkson attends, the event is shaping up to be a memorable night for music fans in Oxford.
