Preparing for the Freezing Dive
The team faces the daunting challenge of diving into the Baltic Sea, where water temperatures are near freezing. Hypothermia is a real danger, so specialized gear is essential. Divers begin by layering thermal clothing, followed by a full thermal suit, then a dry suit. Additional protection includes thick waterproof booties, a full-face mask, and sealed, gasketed gloves—gear reminiscent of astronaut equipment. Fully equipped, they prepare to enter the icy water.
Entering the Baltic Sea
Against better judgment, the team splashes into the freezing sea. The temperature is close to 0°C, and the cold is immediately overwhelming. Fingers begin to lose feeling almost instantly, highlighting the extreme conditions of this underwater expedition. Above the surface, Zeignv monitors the radio, maintaining constant communication with the divers.

Tracking the Target
The dive’s objective lies nearly 100 feet below the surface, meaning bottom time is limited. Precision is crucial; without quickly locating the target, the team risks missing it entirely. Using sonar, Yatsk guides the team toward the coordinates at a heading of 70°.
Navigating the Featureless Depths
As they descend, the slope becomes steeper, and the bottom remains featureless. The object detected on sonar appears massive, but visual confirmation is still needed. The divers swim carefully just above the sea floor, scanning for any sign of the mysterious target.
First Sight of the Unknown Object
Through the gloom of the icy depths, a dark shape begins to materialize. The team catches their first glimpse of the target, confirming that the sonar readings were accurate. Excitement mixes with tension as they approach the unknown object in the Baltic Sea.
