The Cure Of Oak Island

Ancient Coin Discovery on Lot 5 Sparks Biggest Breakthrough of Oak Island Season 13

Oak Island Season 13: A New Trail of Clues Emerges on Lot 5

Season 13 of The Curse of Oak Island continues to deliver unexpected twists as the team uncovers new artifacts on Lot 5 — a location that is becoming one of the most promising hotspots in the entire Oak Island mystery. From unusual metal signals to centuries-old objects, Marty, Rick, Katya, and the crew find themselves inching closer to answers.

A Search Between Mysterious Features Turns Promising

Marty Lagina, Peter Fornetti, and metal detection expert Katya Drayton revisit Lot 5 to investigate the area between a rectangular structure and a rounded stone foundation near the shoreline. When Katya scans a section previously disturbed by a skid steer, her detector immediately locks on to several strong signals.

After digging, the team uncovers a curved metal object with clear signs of a fastener. Marty immediately labels it “lab-worthy,” suspecting it could be related to activity surrounding the enigmatic rectangular feature.

Lab Analysis Reveals a Cast-Iron Artifact From the 1600s–1700s

Back in the Oak Island lab, archaeologists Laird Niven and Emma Culligan reveal that the mysterious metal fragment is part of a cast-iron pot. Chemical analysis shows high phosphorous content — a hallmark of pre-Industrial Revolution cookware.

Emma concludes the artifact likely dates to the 1700s, possibly as early as the 1600s, making it yet another historical find on Lot 5.

Rick remarks that Lot 5 remains “a mystery wrapped in an enigma,” yet it continues producing artifacts that hint at significant past activity.

A New Non-Ferrous Signal Leads to a Stunning Discovery

Returning to Lot 5, Marty and Katya continue scanning south of the rounded feature. Katya picks up a strong, non-ferrous target beneath a rock. Moments later, she uncovers a thick, irregularly shaped coin with markings that appear to form a cross.

Marty immediately suspects something extraordinary, calling Rick, Gary Drayton, and other team members over.

Gary examines the coin and confirms the team’s hopes:

“This is pre-1600s. That’s an old coin—definitely hammered.”

Its irregular shape, thickness, and green copper oxidation place it among the most significant historical artifacts yet recovered on Oak Island.

A Potential Connection to the Roman Coin Cluster

The discovery gains even more importance given its location. The coin was found in the same general area as several previously authenticated Roman-era coins from Lot 5.

Marty calls the find “hugely exciting,” and Rick notes that the coin’s face shows markings that could help identify its origin — potentially connecting the island to early European explorers or much older trans-Atlantic voyages.

Katya is celebrated for the discovery, with Gary declaring it a “top-pocket find.”

Hope Reignites as Lot 5 Continues to Deliver Clues

With multiple ancient artifacts unearthed — pottery, cast-iron, Roman-era coins, and now a pre-1600s copper coin — Lot 5 is emerging as one of the most archaeologically rich sites the team has explored.

Rick sums up the renewed optimism:

“The coin will tell you what it is — and that gives us immense hope.”

As season 13 progresses, Lot 5 may prove to be the key to understanding who came to Oak Island centuries before modern treasure hunters ever set foot there.
