Tony Beets Lends His $4 Million D11 to Save Son Kevin’s Mining Operation

Gold Rush: Kevin Beets Battles Delays, Breakdowns, and Pressure to Strike Gold

It’s been a tough start to the mining season for Kevin Beets, and things aren’t going according to plan. A month behind schedule and with no gold mined yet, the young boss is facing mounting pressure to turn things around — fast.

Falling Behind Schedule

“We’re about a month behind where we wanted to be,” Kevin admits. “We thought we’d already be sluicing by now — but delays, delays, breakdowns, breakdowns.”

Nine weeks into his first season running his own mine, Kevin still hasn’t produced a single ounce of gold. His crew is frustrated, the weather isn’t helping, and their equipment is constantly breaking down.

The biggest problem? Frozen pay dirt. The ground at the Lynx Cut has finally hit gold-bearing material, but it’s solidly frozen — and getting it out quickly requires a powerful dozer that Kevin doesn’t currently have.

The D10 Breakdown

Kevin’s main dozer, a Caterpillar D10, blew its transmission a month ago and is still out of action. Without it, the crew is struggling to keep pace.

“The breakdowns kill us every single time,” Kevin says, visibly frustrated.

Foreman Brennan Ruault is forced to use an excavator with a smaller ripper blade to tear through the frozen ground — a slow and exhausting process.

“It’s been anything but a smooth spring,” Brennan admits. “We’re already a month behind on everything.”

Mounting Pressure and High Costs

Operator Matt Keifer loads the frozen pay dirt into trucks, hauling it to a stockpile that they hope will thaw in the sun before processing. But with limited machinery and a small crew, progress is painfully slow.

“The original plan was to have the cut completely stripped by now,” Matt says. “Making deadlines is tough with old equipment — and I’m feeling the pressure.”

The operation has already cost over $1 million, and without gold coming in soon, the crew’s patience — and finances — are wearing thin.

Tony and Minnie Beets Pay a Visit

As if the pressure wasn’t high enough, Kevin’s parents, Tony and Minnie Beets, arrive at the mine site to check on progress.

Kevin leases his claim on Scribner Creek from Tony, owing him 10% of all gold mined — and he’s already late on his first payment.

“You’ll have royalties to pay,” Tony reminds him. “That’s business. Kids or friends, doesn’t matter — you’ve got to pay.”

Kevin explains that the frozen ground and the broken D10 have stalled production. Tony listens, then offers a lifeline.

A $4 Million Lifeline: The D11

“How desperate are you for another dozer?” Tony asks.

“Very much so,” Kevin replies.

Tony considers it for a moment before agreeing to lend his $4 million, 115-ton D11 dozer — one of the biggest and most powerful in the Klondike.

“You can borrow it for a couple of days,” Tony says. “The sooner you get sluicing and get some gold, the sooner I get some royalties.”

Kevin is relieved. “That’s going to make a world of difference for us,” he says. “We can finally start catching up.”

Hope on the Horizon

With the D11 on site, Kevin’s crew can finally start ripping through frozen pay dirt and stockpiling enough material to get the wash plant running.

“It’s hard not to get excited,” Kevin says, looking over the growing mountain of pay dirt. “This is one of our first big wins this season — but we’ve still got a long way to go.”

Their next goal: move the wash plant into place and start sluicing for gold. After weeks of setbacks, Kevin and his crew finally have a reason to hope that this season might just turn around.

The Road Ahead

Despite the endless breakdowns, frozen ground, and financial strain, Kevin Beets is proving his resilience.

With Tony’s D11 at his disposal and a mountain of pay dirt ready to process, the young miner is finally on track to do what every Beets family member was born to do — find gold in the Klondike.
