The Comeback of the Season — Parker Schnabel’s Jaw-Dropping $430,000 Gold Haul

arker Schnabel’s $430,000 Gold Comeback: Chaos, New Blood, and a Fight to Keep the Wash Plant Alive

The Yukon has never been easy on miners, and this season, Parker Schnabel’s 20-acre Long Cut is proving why. His crew is battling exhaustion, breakdowns, and a serious lack of hands. Foreman Mitch Blashki is stretched thin trying to keep the wash plant Rock Sand fed with pay dirt.

“We just don’t have enough resources,” Mitch admits. “Not enough machines, not enough operators. Parker’s got us spread everywhere.”

The pressure is on. With Parker chasing a record-breaking 10,000-ounce season, every hour of downtime costs thousands.

A Rookie’s Rough First Week

Amid the chaos, a new face joins the team — 20-year-old Taven Peterson from Saskatchewan. It’s his first week working for Parker, and he’s full of excitement.

“I’ve always dreamed of getting out of Asenavoe,” Taven says. “Everyone’s been super nice. I’m just happy to be here, learning what gold mining’s all about.”

But gold mining in the Yukon has a way of turning dreams into close calls. While building a new road along the east bank, Taven’s truck slides dangerously close to the edge.

“Damn near went over the bank,” he radios in. “I’m stuck up here. Gonna need a hand with the dozer.”

Mitch responds immediately — but time is tight. Rock Sand is almost out of pay dirt, and every minute counts.

On the Edge

Mitch arrives to find Taven’s truck hanging on unstable ground. One wrong move, and it could tumble down the slope.

“We’ll cut some material behind you, see if we can back you up,” Mitch says calmly. “But this whole thing wants to roll.”

They work fast, shoring up the road with fresh dirt from other trucks. Inch by inch, the crew stabilizes the edge. Finally, Taven eases the truck back to safety.

“Beautiful work,” Mitch says. “The best thing he did was stop and ask for help. Nobody got hurt, and we saved the truck.”

Relieved, Taven tries to thank his boss with a hug. Mitch laughs it off — “Not a hugger.” Then it’s right back to work. In the Yukon, downtime is a luxury no miner can afford.

A $430,000 Turnaround

Despite the setbacks, the week ends on a high note. Parker’s wash plants are finally showing results.
At the cleanup, Big Red produces 55.8 ounces of gold, worth nearly $140,000 — far better than expected.

Then it’s Rock Sand’s turn. The numbers climb fast — 20, 40, 80, 100, 130… until the scales stop at 171.95 ounces, worth almost $430,000 in gold.

“That’s way better than I thought,” Parker grins. “We’re still 9,200 ounces short, but this is a solid comeback.”

Eyes on the Goal

With a season total of 804.25 ounces, Parker knows the road to 10,000 ounces is long — but the momentum is back.

“Fire up three plants, four plants — I don’t care,” he says. “We need to get some gold rolling through here.”

As the Yukon ground thaws, Big Red digs deeper and Rock Sand keeps chewing through pay dirt.
It’s a brutal grind — long days, new operators, and constant repairs — but the gold is starting to flow again.

And for Parker Schnabel and his crew, that’s the only thing that matters.
