Now, the Expedition Unknown host is trading the wild for the stage as his live show arrives at Baton Rouge’s Raising Cane’s River Center on October 25th. The evening promises fans an unforgettable mix of discovery, storytelling, and exclusive behind-the-scenes moments from his adventures around the globe.

“It’s a great way to learn more about the series and to go behind the scenes a bit,” Gates said. “If you don’t know the show, it’s a chance to discover incredible stories of lost treasures and vanished civilizations — it’ll be a night of high adventure.”

Adventure, Laughter, and Louisiana Legends

Known for blending humor, suspense, and genuine curiosity, Gates has become a favorite among adventure-lovers and armchair travelers alike.
Though his journeys have taken him across continents, Louisiana holds a special place in his heart — particularly for its pirate lore.

He recalled filming an Expedition Unknown episode centered on Jean Lafitte, the 19th-century pirate rumored to have hidden treasure in Louisiana’s swamps.

“He’s such a fascinating character,” Gates said. “It was awesome exploring New Orleans and the bayous, learning about its history and the possible treasure that might still be out there somewhere in Louisiana.”

The experience gave Gates a new appreciation for the state’s blend of mystery, history, and legend — and now, he’s eager to experience Baton Rouge for the first time.

“I don’t think I’ve really spent any time in Baton Rouge,” he admitted. “So this is an adventure for me.”

From the Field to the Stage

After years of filming off the grid in remote deserts, jungles, and oceans, performing live might seem like a new kind of challenge. Gates says the two experiences aren’t all that different.

“They’re both terrifying,” he joked. “In the field, we’re isolated from everything. The live show lets me return to civilization, share stories, and meet fans who love exploration as much as I do.”

The live format also allows him to connect directly with audiences, something television rarely offers. Gates says meeting fans — especially younger ones — is among the most rewarding parts of his job.

“We have the first generation of kids who think the world is fully mapped,” he said. “They’re amazed to learn there are still unexplored places and that archaeologists are still making huge discoveries. I hope they leave with a sense of wonder.”

A Sneak Peek at the Next Expedition

Fans attending the Baton Rouge event will be treated to exclusive previews of the upcoming season of Expedition Unknown, set to premiere in November.

“We’re doing a big two-part special on the Great Pyramid of Giza,” Gates revealed. “We’ll also be investigating a lost Nazi submarine off the coast of Poland and searching for a lost steamship in the jungles of Nicaragua. It’s a really adventurous season.”

He also hinted that attendees will see never-before-seen footage and behind-the-scenes “goodies” from his expeditions — stories that even longtime fans haven’t witnessed yet.

Keeping the Spirit of Discovery Alive

Despite years of global exploration, Gates insists that his curiosity remains as strong as ever.

“There’s just this natural spark of mystery,” he said. “That feeling of, ‘There’s a puzzle here we need to solve.’ It’s easy to stay excited when the stories are this compelling.”

But for him, discovery isn’t always about gold or lost relics — sometimes, it’s simply about knowledge.

“Discovery comes in many forms,” he said. “There’s the thrill of finding something ancient, but there’s also the joy of understanding. Sometimes it’s not about a golden treasure — it’s about learning something new.”

A Night of Wonder Awaits

As Josh Gates steps onto the Baton Rouge stage, fans can expect a night filled with adventure, laughter, and inspiration — a reminder that even in the modern world, mystery still exists.

Whether it’s uncovering lost civilizations or inspiring the next generation of explorers, Gates’ message is clear:

The spirit of adventure is alive — and it starts with curiosity.
