But in 2024, He Really Did

Fans of Deadliest Catch will remember how in 2021, Jake Anderson came dangerously close to losing the F/V Saga during a brutal storm. But sadly, in 2024, Discovery Channel followers were hit with unexpected news—Jake actually lost the vessel, but not to the sea.

Instead, the boat was repossessed under devastating circumstances.

A Crushing Blow

Jake Anderson, who once started out as a skateboarder before turning to fishing, had built an impressive crabbing career in the treacherous waters of the Bering Sea. After battling addiction and turning his life around, he co-invested in the Saga alongside partner Lenny Herzog. The investment was deeply personal—Jake poured in everything he had, even his children’s college savings.

But then it all fell apart.

Without much warning, Jake found a lock and a repossession note on the Saga. At first, fans feared the boat had sunk—thankfully, it hadn’t. But the reality may have been worse for Jake: he lost the vessel, and with it, a major part of his career.

Speaking to TV Insider, Jake remained respectful of the legal process and didn’t go into detail about what went wrong with Lenny. However, he was candid about the emotional impact.

“Just before I was getting ready to go red crab fishing, I found out my partner—with all due respect, with the legal things going on, we don’t know what he did—I lost my boat,” Jake revealed. “I went from having the most king crab to catch, and having a nice platform that I built with my own two hands, to losing it all over a weekend.”

A Lifeline from Sig Hansen

In the wake of the loss, Jake was offered a lifeline—from none other than his former boss, Northwestern captain Sig Hansen.

Returning to his roots, Jake was seen working aboard the Northwestern again in Season 20. While it’s unclear whether he owns any part of his current boat, the F/V Titan Explorer, fans were relieved to see him back in the water doing what he does best.

Accepting help from Sig Hansen might not have been easy, but Jake spoke about the strong bond between fishermen and women, calling it a “very honorable profession.”

“Of course Sig is going to reach out because we are close as fishermen and fisherwomen,” Jake said.

What’s Next for Jake?

Jake’s journey is a powerful reminder of the highs and lows that come with working in one of the world’s most dangerous industries. Despite the immense setback, he’s managed to stay afloat—thanks to grit, resilience, and a little help from a friend.

What are your thoughts on Jake’s loss of the Saga? Were you surprised Sig Hansen stepped in to support him?
