After Decades of Danger, ‘Deadliest Catch’ Has Something Huge Planned
Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch is marking 20 years of thrilling fans of rough and ready reality TV with its upcoming Season 21 premiere. Captains Sig Hansen, Keith Colburn and other intrepid stars are back fishing for crab in a new scary and remote location that poses a bigger challenge than ever before. Also, in a nod to the sign of the times, the new season will explore economic problems facing the Alaskan fishing industry.

Show icon Hansen, 59, has summed up his job’s drama to fishingnet.nz, saying, “It’s just pure hell all the time! It’s crab fishing, it’s not an industry for the soft-skinned. You have to want it. Every year there is something that goes wrong.”
In previous seasons, viewers have seen Hansen suffer a heart attack during filming, two boats collide, intense waves nearly capsize the vessel The Wizard, fishermen react to the death of deck hand Todd Kochutin’s due to crab fishing injuries, crew member Spencer Moore cheating death after being pulled overboard, and beloved regular Phil Harris’ final days after suffering a stroke.
