Rick and Marty Lagina Narrow the Search for Oak Island’s Treasure

Garden Shaft Tunnel Points to a Hidden Vault

Recent excavations by Dumas Contracting have revealed that the Garden Shaft tunnel may be key to locating the fabled Oak Island treasure. Advanced muon tomography has shown a clear anomaly approximately 10 feet southeast of the shaft. This mysterious shape, interpreted as a possible void or chamber, is situated at a depth of 145 feet—consistent with legends describing a vault containing treasure.

SEASON 12, EPISODE 9, “BRICK BY BRICK” ARTIFACT AND FEATURE ANALYSIS

Marty Lagina, after reviewing the scan results, emphasized the strategic importance of this area. “If we’re going to find something,” he noted, “this is where we dig.” As a result, the team is now expanding a tunnel directly toward the anomaly, intensifying hopes that they may soon reach the elusive underground structure.

E5N14: Metal Detection Confirms Tunnel Infrastructure

Emma Culligan’s team conducted a parallel investigation at grid E5N14, where ground-penetrating radar previously detected linear anomalies. Utilizing electromagnetic scanning, they confirmed the presence of metal objects beneath the surface—likely remnants of tunnel reinforcements or a metal-lined corridor.

These findings, coupled with historic references to platforms or protective tunnel features, suggest the site may be an access route toward a treasure vault. The team believes this area could contain either a support tunnel built by original depositors or one used by past searchers who came dangerously close to the prize.

Aladdin’s Cave: Debris and Clues in the Southern Tunnels

Borehole drilling in the Aladdin’s Cave area—approximately 100 feet south of the Garden Shaft—yielded fragments of worked wood and unusual sand layers. These materials appear inconsistent with natural deposits and may indicate tunnel collapse or human construction. Gary Drayton, a metal-detection expert, speculated that this could represent a side entrance or even a ventilation shaft to a larger chamber.

The team’s conclusion: multiple tunnels may converge on a central vault. This area will now be investigated with more advanced scanning and possible horizontal tunneling.

Lot 5 Discoveries Strengthen the Templar and Concepción Theories

Meanwhile, in Lot 5, archaeologist Laird Niven and metal detection specialist Gary Drayton continue to unearth artifacts that deepen Oak Island’s historical mystery. Among the discoveries: a broken sword hilt, 17th-century coins, and a stone marker bearing partial symbols resembling a cross pattée—a symbol often linked to the Knights Templar.

Further geochemical analysis of nearby soil revealed a surprising concentration of lead and gold traces. This supports the theory that Oak Island may have been used to store or process precious metals, either by Templars or survivors from the 1641 Concepción shipwreck.

Dr. Ian Spooner, analyzing the samples, remarked that the composition is unnatural and suggests human activity tied to ore refinement or treasure concealment.

Tunnel Convergence Theory Gains Ground

With findings from the Garden Shaft, E5N14, and Aladdin’s Cave aligning, a compelling new theory has emerged: all these underground routes may lead to a central chamber designed to protect a treasure deposit. Emma Culligan noted that the tunnel angles from multiple directions appear to converge within a 20-foot radius near the anomaly found by the muon scan.

This convergence point may lie beneath what is now believed to be a stone vault—possibly the legendary “vault under seven levels of oak and clay” described in 19th-century accounts.

Next Steps: Final Dig Approaches

The team is now racing against time and budget constraints to reach the targeted anomaly near the Garden Shaft. A final, horizontal tunnel will be extended directly into the zone where all evidence points. This may be their last opportunity to unearth the centuries-old mystery buried deep beneath Oak Island.
