From Gold Rush Fame to Total Silence: The Disappearance of Gene Cheeseman
A Gold Rush star, Gene Cheeseman, disappeared off the show almost as quietly as he appeared, but his reasoning for leaving the show is not what many would expect. The popular Discovery Channel series showcases miners, families and businesses who are hoping to literally get rich off of gold. Over the years, Gold Rush led to several spin-offs, including Parker’s Trail, Freddy Doge’s Mine Rescue, and more. However, a common occurrence on the show is for stars to appear and disappear, often without much explanation.
This was the case with Cheeseman, who first appeared in Season 4, Episode 2 as a new miner. He worked with Parker Schnabel and then moved onto Tony Beets’ crew. Much like Chris Doumitt, he was more of an old-school star who many of the members looked up to. He was also a talented mechanic on the show that often helped the crew overcome machinery problems quickly to meet deadlines. However, despite his popularity, Gene has disappeared from the series and fans are wondering why.
‘Gold Rush’s Gene and Parker Are No Longer At Odds

‘Gold Rush’s Gene Still Works for Tony
Although Gene hasn’t appeared on Gold Rush or its spin-offs in a few seasons, it’s reasonable to assume that he still works with Tony. Based on Parker’s interview, coupled with social media posts, it’s likely that Gene has found the groove he was looking for with Tony’s team. Gene never seemed that interested on being on camera, so perhaps now he’s enjoying the best of both worlds: striking it rich off-screen.
Additionally, Gene hasn’t updated his X or Facebook accounts, contributing to the belief that the miner enjoys his privacy. However, in 2017, he did tweet “I’m fine without the air time.” The short and sweet tweet also supports the thought that Gene may prefer his privacy and working silently behind the scenes to being at the forefront of the crew.
In the end, Gene is a talented force that the show benefited from. His expertise along with his generally appeasing attitude made him a great contributor to the show. To see him go, especially without an explanation, was a sad moment for the Gold Rush series. However, it doesn’t seem like he’s let the change in circumstances get in his way because he’s still in the industry mining for gold and fixing mechanical issues.
