3 Groundbreaking Gold Finds | The Curse of Oak Island

Discovery of Gold on Oak Island

Analyzing the Brooch

Marty Lagina predicts that the artifact is pre-1840. He joins his son, Alex Lagina, and his business partner, Craig Tester, on a journey to Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. There, they meet Dr. Christa Brosseau, an expert in electrochemistry and metals analysis, along with her colleague, Dr. Xiang Yang.

Using a scanning electron microscope, the team examines an antique brooch found on Lot 21. The results confirm that the brooch contains gold, making it the first verified gold discovery on the island.

Celebrating the Find

Returning to Oak Island, Marty shares the exciting news with his brother, Rick Lagina, and their team. They acknowledge this as a historic moment, proving that real treasure has been found. However, they are determined to continue their search for the main treasure hoard.

Probe Drilling in the Garden Shaft

The team initiates a new drilling operation in the Garden Shaft, where previous water tests indicated high traces of gold. The Dumas Contracting Limited team drills multiple boreholes to search for voids or potential treasure chambers near the original Money Pit.

Gold Found in the Shaft’s Wood

Later, archaeometallurgist Emma Culligan analyzes wood samples from the shaft using an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF). The results confirm gold traces on the wood, supporting the theory that the area contains buried gold.

A Breakthrough in the Treasure Zone

Meanwhile, the team continues borehole drilling at site DN 11.5, which reaches a void at 90 feet deep. The discovery aligns with previous findings of a possible tunnel leading to the Garden Shaft. Further analysis of the wood core sample from the void once again confirms gold traces, increasing the excitement that they may be near the real treasure.

Looking Ahead

With mounting scientific evidence and a growing list of gold traces, the Oak Island team remains optimistic. They believe they are closer than ever to uncovering the legendary treasure that has eluded searchers for over 223 years.
