Tony Beets’ Bold Plan to Finish Strong: Monica’s Hester Cut in Action
Gold Rush: Tony Beets’ Ambitious Plan to Finish Strong with Daughter Monica’s Hester Cut
As the gold mining season enters its final stretch, Tony Beets is focused on finishing strong and reaching his goal of 5,000 ounces of gold. With only one wash plant in operation, Tony is determined to ramp up production by getting a second plant running quickly. The task is assigned to his daughter, Monica Beets, who is tasked with draining the Hester Cut, a gold-rich area on their claim.

The Task of Draining the Hester Cut
Monica’s task is no small feat. The Hester Cut has been sitting dormant, flooded by water, and Tony’s daughter needs to clear it out so the team can begin mining the valuable pay dirt below. To accomplish this, Monica enlists the help of her brother Mike and his crew. They bring in a custom-built machine, one of Tony’s signature “Frankenstein machines,” a 65-year-old pipe layer fused with a 30-year-old pump. The combination is designed to pump 1,000 gallons of water per minute, draining the Hester Cut and revealing the gold-rich pay dirt beneath.
Challenges in the Field
As the crew works to get the pump into position, they run into a few challenges. The ground is tricky, and it’s not easy to get the pump in place. But Monica’s brother Mike, always up for a challenge, decides to drive the pump himself. It’s a tight space, but with the pump in place, they finally get it started. After a few struggles with securing the pump and making sure the system is ready, the crew begins to see the results.
Progress in the Hester Cut
Monica is eager to see the water drained and start moving some dirt. After four days of continuous draining, the crew finally gets a glimpse of the cut, only to find it in a swampy mess. The banks of the Hester Cut have collapsed due to heavy saturation of water, causing the soil to liquefy and cover the gold pay. The team now faces a major setback: they must stop the landslide from covering even more pay by hauling in coarse rocks from a nearby pile of old tailings. The rocks will act as a French drain, allowing the excess water to flow into the cut, where it will need to be pumped out once everything has settled.
Challenges with Equipment and Logistics
While Monica focuses on getting the rocks in place, Tony’s team continues to work around the clock to keep the wash plant running. The pressure is on to meet the season goal, and every ounce counts. The wash plant is operating at full capacity, processing rocks and moving pay dirt. Monica also brings in an excavator to help load the rock trucks with tailings, which will prevent further collapse and stabilize the Hester Cut.

The Pay Dirt Comes in
After seven days of hard work, the crew finally has their first weigh-in for the week. Tony needs to make at least 200 ounces to stay on track for his 5,000-ounce goal for the season. After weighing the material, it turns out that the crew has exceeded expectations with 320 ounces, worth over $800,000. This puts the season total at 4,159 ounces, bringing Tony closer to his goal.
Monica’s Big Step
As Tony reflects on the success of the week, he’s proud of his daughter, Monica, and her efforts in getting the Hester Cut up and running. While the work is far from over, Monica’s leadership and determination have proven she’s ready to take on the challenge of expanding the Beets family empire.
Looking Ahead
With the Hester Cut showing promising results, Tony Beets is more confident than ever that he can reach his 5,000-ounce target. As the team pushes forward, the focus will remain on continuing to process gold-rich pay dirt, ensuring that every machine runs smoothly, and tackling whatever challenges arise in the unpredictable world of gold mining. Tony and Monica’s hard work and family collaboration could lead to a strong finish to a potentially record-breaking season.
